Twonky crashes on certain xvid files

Hi all,

I've moved this posted from the PS3 forum as I'm not sure it's a PS3 issue.

Been using twonky since 4.4.4 and it's been working perfectly for HD mpgs, xvids, music, piccies and so on. I ran into my first problem last night. I selected an xvid from the list and after 30 secs or so, the PS3 threw up a protocol error (haven't got the number with me). I tried again but the media server couldn't be found. I went upstairs to the PC, and Vista was reporting that Twonkymediaserver.exe had stopped working. I restarted it, played the file again through the PS3 and exactly the same thing happened. The files play fine on the PC. So I upgraded to 4.4.7 - same thing happens. Database has been rebuilt twice - no joy.

The weird thing is it's only particular xvid files, other ones work fine. Could these files just be problematic, ie. wrong aspect ratio, frame rate or something along those lines?

I burnt the files to a dvd, and they play fine in the PS3.

Twonky Media content breakdown as follows:

Music tracks: 2861
Photos: 2948
Videos: 393
Radio stations: 0

I used GSpot and couldn't see any obvious difference between the files, other than dimensions.

One of left causes crash, one on right works.

Any help much appreciated!

Hiya,

I've figured it out... opened the offending video files with VirtualDubMod and it reported an error in the VBR encoding. Re-encoded with a CBR and they're working fine.
