I have a few compilation albums on my server, and I've been trying to get the tracks within them to appear in amongst the other tracks from the same artist.

I have an Artist/Album node on my tree, and it definitely Artist, not Album Artist.

I have some files that originally were artist Various, but I have now set both Artist and Album Artist to be the artist concerned. But try as I might, these song still show up under an artist of Various, despite rescanning directories and restarting the server many times since.

I've checked the files in various ID3 tag aware places and they show no sign of Various anywhere, yet they still show up there. Oddly it only seems to be files from compilation albums that have the problem, when I find two similar artists differently spelt, and correct one, they merge quite happily.

Any thoughts anybody? This is driving me nuts.

I've been soldiering on trying to fix this but to no avail.

The problem only seems to happen with compilation albums, but not all of them. Some songs appear under the individual track artist as you would expect, some don't.

I concentrated on one that doesn't...

In every ID3 tag editor I could find I checked the tags, the Artist Tag was correctly set, I even set the Album Tag to be the track artist. All the tagging software sorts the file correctly, Twonky puts it under an artist of Various. I've tied setting the album artist to "Compilation" and the track artist correctly, and then opened the file in a Text Editor, and you can see the track artist and "Compilation" in there, no sign of "Various", but Twonky STILL puts it under Various when listed by Artist.

I've touched the file on the server, I've rebooted, rescanned and rebuilt the database. All to no avail. Oddly when on a list By Album Artist the file does show up under "Compilation" but by track artist is shows up under "Various".

I can see absolutely NO reason why Twonky is putting some of these files under "Various", I can't see it anywhere in the file but Twonky is obviously getting it from somewhere, even after a rebuild.

Any clues where else I can look to find out where it's getting "Various" from as an Artist!!! Before I completely go mad

OK, Don't know what I've just done, but now on the Browser, this file shows up nowhere I can find under artist, not "Various", "Compilation" or the actual artist, but it DOES show up under the track artist in a list broken down by Genre first then Artist. Then when I browse the server on my PS3 it DOES show up in the right place under Artist.

I give up!
