Thanks for testing this again. I've passed your findings on to our developers. I don't know why it would be working for them and not for you, but I'll post any comments I get back from them here.

I read the features below but i cannot select the boxes...

Converti in codice la musica in:

Converti in codice i video in:

WMV
MPEG4
Flash
This is a good question. These boxes only become ungrayed if you have installed a transcoding software like FFmpeg. There is some information about this here: http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... 714#p22749

thanks Rick, this is more clear

Can you ask to your expert what are the changes to apply for unix machines?

In this case I try to set ffmpeg.location file with this

/opt/bin/ffmpeg

the path where the codec is located but not work

Dear Rick,

do you have a quick installation procedure for arm-based NAS (Buffalo Tera Pro II) for ffmpeg to enabel transforming videos within TMS 5.1.1

Where I can find the files?
In which directory I must copy these files?
Which links are necessary?

Thanks, best regards from Germany

Sorry, I've also posted this in a separate thread, but I've found that with my setup (TMS 5.5.1 WHS add-in + Samsung UN46B7100 + Acer EasyStore AH340), play/pause works fine, but FFWD/REWIND only works on videos less than 1hr 48 mins in length. All my movies are DiVX, encoded using the DiVX 7 Converter (Home Theater setting).

I also found that since upgrading to 5.1.1 from 5.1 I have to rebuild the database every time I add movies to the server, otherwise the movies seem to appear randomly in the wrong folder and are unplayable by the TV. After I've rebuilt the databse, the movies appear in the correct folders and are playable.

Cheers
Warren

Here is the answer I recieved from our engineer. I hope this helps you.

ffmpeg.location should point to the *folder* which contains ffmpeg binary, which appears to be /opt/bin in this case.

This is a known issue. There's nothing we can do about it. We'll mention it to the guys at Samsung at CES in a few weeks.

I've created a support ticket for this issue. To check status, ask about MM-3349. There will be a new release of TMM/TMS posted this Friday. Please retest and let me know if things change. Thanks.

There are two problems that could make doing this difficult.

1. Most NAS devices do not have enough CPU power to transcode videos well.
2. We don't provide pre-compiled binaries for FFmpeg because we don't have them.

You would need to either find an FFmpeg package that has built for your NAS device or compile ffmpeg on your own. After that, the transcoder configuration should be the same on the NAS as it it on a Linux PC. In other words, copy FFmpeg to a folder and edit the ffmpeg.location file accordingly.

Sorry I don't have better news for you. Thanks to Burkhard for providing this answer.

Hi,

I have Samsung Tv LE40b650. With Twonky on my NAS I'm able to play most of my movies but I'm not able to rewind videos. I found on Internet Serviio media server (v 0.3). With Serviio I'm able to watch all movies even with external subtitles!!!. I'm also capable to pause/play movie and rewind!! as well.
Would it be possible for Twonky developers to look how serrviio does this and make twonky more compliant with Samsung Tvs??

best regards

Hello from Germany :D ,

I have a Samsung 37B650 and a WD My Book World NAS, with the newest Firmewareupdates, but still pause is not working. So is there any patch available? Or will come some updates in the future that make functions like foreward pause eg. possible?

I read something in the Internet that it will work if I change the clients.db? Is this true? When yes, what should I change?

Best regards
Ralf

I'll try to do some tests with different type of videos. But I think that the problem will be with mime-types. Serviio has specific profile for Samsung Tvs so it can send correct mime-types (e.g. for mkv videos). I'll try to set new profile in twonky as well and play with this.

I'm more concern about subtitles. Here's what I've found on Serviio forum about external subtitles:
>Use Wireshark to listen for TCP packets on port 8895. When I want to play a video the TV makes a couple of requests to >that port using HEAD and GET methods. One of them is a HEAD request that includes header getCaptionInfo.sec. This >is a Samsung specific header. If subtitle for a video is found Serviio responds with a resource URL for the subtitle file. TV >then makes a GET request to fetch the subtitle resource (and it's using some specific mime-type).

could you look at this and make such a behaviour for Twonky as well. I think lot of people with Samsung would appreciate this.

best regards and Merry Christmas

I can't stream MKV to my Samsung (LN32B650, firmware 2009/09/30_002005) from TwonkyMedia 5.1.2, but I can from Media Tomb 0.11.0 after following the instructions here.

It's only the first part that adds 2 extra HTTP headers:

Code: Select all

<custom-http-headers>
  <add header="transferMode.dlna.org: Streaming" />
  <add header="contentFeatures.dlna.org: DLNA.ORG_OP=01;DLNA.ORG_CI=0;DLNA.ORG_FLAGS=01700000000000000000000000000000" />
</custom-http-headers>
that makes a difference to whether MKV files are supported at all. Is there any way to add these headers to Twonky?

I followed information for an older version of Twonky (4) and added the following profile:
NA:Samsung HDTV
DD:Samsung HDTV
DB:Fix
XM:DNLA15
XM:DATETIME
XM:FORCE_DURATION
XM:FORCE_4TH_FIELD
HP:chunked
MT:mpeg,mpeg2,vdr,spts,tp,ts,avi,divx,mkv video/mpeg
MT:m4a audio/mp4
AV:no-m3u
I've highlighted the lines that differ from the stock Samsung TV profile, no idea which of them did the trick. This now allows 1080p MKV files to be streamed to my Samsung.

Brilliant, thanks. I'm happy to try beta versions or custom profiles if you don't have access to a similar model - I'm not yet making serious use of the DLNA functionality so don't mind if I break things along the way (and I have working backups  ).

I have a Samsung LE46B650 TV connected by cable. Pause and fast foreward only worked with mpg-files using Twonky 4.4.X server. A test installation of Twonky 5.1.3 on an different PC accessing the media files over the LAN had the same problem. After upgrading the "official" 4.4.X Server with media files on local disks to 5.1.3 pause and fast forwared works for all video types (including divx).
So I assume it is a timing issue, that pause and fast foreward is not working.

With best regards

No, devicesn (i.e. Twonky) should recognise the "orientation" tag in the exif data, and interpret it accordingly. What's the point of having it if you're then going to have to rotate things anyway?

I have an UE46B8090 Samsung LED TV. I installed the new twonky Media server 5.1.2.

Pause is working with AVI Files. But nor forward or rewind.

I can not play vob Files and / or MKV.

Is there anything planned to have this fixed with the samsung TV and the sh.. DLNA they implemented into their TV?? :)

My TV is a Samsung TV a 46B9080 or so. So it is working with the changes in the profile.

But I now switched from MAC to the Win7 Version and i cann´t mount any network drives to the twonky media server anymore???? With Mac it was no problem. How can that be?

Where are your network drives? Did you enable SMB/CIFS on that device?

SOrry.

Yes if I install Media Server under Mac and I want to point to a share I can also choose network shares which are mounted to the mac.
Under windows I can´t choose such shares.

Yes, but where are those shares? What device is exporting the shares?

Given what little you've said, either you don't know how to map network shares under Windows, or the unspecified device is only providing shares via AFS, which is Apple only, not CIFS/SMB, which is what Windows uses. Until you say WHAT is providing those shares, it's all just guesswork ;)

We tried be could not replicate the issue with our TMS 5.1.2 for WHS running on our HP MSS and using our Samsung DLNA TV. We created folders on the HP and was able to list and view the correct file from the samsung. Files were listed correctly and listed appropriately in the folders we created. All this was done without performing a rebuild database.

If you can give us detailed instructions how to replicate this issue, we can retest.

Very few devices can play QT MOV format media. The only one I know of is AppleTV. You'll probably need to convert the files to another format to get them to play on your Samsung.

I think it needs some work on the Twonky side. Some other dlna server supports it since some weeks and the samsung dlna server works too, not perfect but it works. I dosnt like the samsung firmware support too, but i think this problem is at the moment a special twonky problem.

You're right kenterfie. :)

Here is the update on Samsung MKV support:

Last week we made a small change in the clients.db that will improve mkv support. With that in place, we could play all our our mkv test files (that also worked from the Samsung server). The change is only one additional line in the TVs profile in the clients.db file. This change will appear in our next release which will be posted here on the forum (e.g. 5.1.4 or later). If you don't want to wait, you can easily make this change now by locating the client.db file, renaming it clients.txt and making the one line insertion below. Then change the file back to clients.db.

>>
NA:Samsung TV
DD:Samsung DTV
XM:DLNA15
XM:FORCE_DURATION
XM:FORCE_4TH_FIELD
MT:mkv video/x-mkv [Here is the inserted line. Delete this comment]
DB:FIX

We also checked the fast forward behavior of the TV. The simple summary is: Twonky cannot (currently) support fast forward/rewind for mkv files.

What we found is this: The TV is not doing a fast forward (in terms of a faster playing video. When you press the ff or rew button on the remote, the TV is just jumping to a different position in the stream. To calculate the offset for the jump, the TV seems to use the playtime of the video file. Twonky currently does not support extracting the playtime from mkv files. To get FF working on the Samsung TVs, we would need to enhance our mkv file scanner. I'll put in a request for this, but don't think this will appear in our next release. (e.g. TMS 6.0).

Your statement of "can't detect my LCD B650 television" suggests your problem isn't simply clients.db.

Can your TV see the Twonky server?
