Hi,
I currently own a Buffalo Linkstation 1TB with a crap media server (PCAST), however i am think of buying the new (out for 4 months now) the Buffalo Quad NAS unit, here is a attached link of the unit -

Q The new Buffalo Quad unit comes with the twonky media server built in, does it support the new file format MKV format (Watch movies etc). Chances are the media server on my PS3 does not support MKV formats anyway so could be a pointless task ??? Unless i go the popcorn way..... Does the new twonky mediaserver on the quad transcodes to a format that the PS3 supports ? If it does transcode has anybody tried transcoding HD movies over your gig ethernet network i.e Buffalo unit ethernet cable to PS3 and it is watch able i.e no jumping, stop/starting etc - I think this is the real world and we are still way off that mark yet !!!!
Thanks for any advice.
Phil

Extremely unlikely that a NAS will be able to transcode (at least not the current crop). transcoding is a extremely CPU and memory intensive operation, something that NAS devices don't have very much of.
If you need transcoding, don't get a NAS...
