Playing FLAC files on an Philips NP2500/12

Post by GriepHN » Sat Jun 20, 2009 8:39 pm

Hi,

I have in stalled Twonky Media Server in the latest version on my XPSP3 machine. I connected it to the NP2500 device and I can see all the configured files which are MP3 FLAC and JPEG files. I can play all of them without problems with the exception of FLAC files which fail mostly. Some play most don't if the do not play correct they block the whole of the NP2500 device. The only way to recover is to pull out the current and restart the device.
About half of my music is FLAC.
I have also tried Tversity which plays all FLACS correct, any idea how to overcome this in Twonky?

Thanks for any help

Hans

I have no issues playing FLAC on my NP2500. I only have FLAC files.
What Twonkyserver and NP2500 versions are you using? Are you using the latest?
You may also want to look at the way these FLAC files are tagged? I know there were some problems there.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, might be in the tagging indeed since some play and some (most) don't. Any idea where to look for in the tags version size of the included covers. As mentioned in the posting they play well on my pc using foobar2000 and on Tversity.
I use that latest software on the philips device and the latest version of Twonky (5.X)

I have seen on a French forum that a tagging caused the NP2500 to crash.
The tagging that works with me (and the NP2500) is ID3v2 v2.3
I use dbPowerAmp to rip my CD'

Why don't you try the following (which will tell you whether you have a NP2500 issue), I know it is a bit effort demanding...:)

Use dbpoweramp to rip one CD in FLAC, you would then use the same files I use.

And then play the album.

If that does not work, there is a problem with the NP2500 you use (as this works in my environment)

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

You can use it 21 days for free.
The reason why I insist is that it might also be related to the FLAC files (something wrong for the NP2500).
I don't remember whether you also need to download the FLAC codec or whether it is included already, but that's just a download.

If that works, you then know you need to switch to another ripping utility such as dbpoweramp or another that works.

I have ripped 4 cd's with this tool with good results. Apparently there are differences in ripping that causes this.
Will switch to your recommended method then and will try to update the tags to the ID version you mention

Many thanks for the excellent help!
