If you use EFS encryption feature of Windows (File->Properties->Advanced->Encrypt contents to secure data) to encrypt a folder containing normal items which Twonky can normally stream to the PS3 (like .JPG), then they no longer work - PS3 throws up some sort of a corrupt file error. The thing is, EFS encryption is supposed to be transparent to all programs because it sits under NTFS filesystem, so I can't understand why it is breaking Twonky streaming?!?!... only thing I can think of is that the Twonky server service is not running under the same user as the files were encrypted with (me as administrator) so it is not decrypting them before sending them to Twonky server. Does the server run under a different user and how would I give/add a certificate to that user for decryption?

Well it appears nobody knew or cared enough to find the answer to this but I found it myself anyway.... You need to go to the Services dialog in Vista and stop the TwonkyMedia service. Then right click on it and select properties - go to the Log On tab and choose the user you encryted the files with instead of the default "Local System Account". You then can restart the service. After doing this you can also encrypt the entire Twonky cache in C:\ProgramData\TwonkyMedia - this is recommended because this folder can get filled up with a copy of your entire filesystem if you have ever added a big folder tree to Twonky (i just deleted an older version of it and it contained over 300,000 files and was 2.4Gb all unknown to me! - i don't like the way Twonky does this...). Anyway I will now try and add an encrypted folder to TwonkyMedia now and see if the PS3 can see the contents this time...

I can confirm that the PS3 can now see encrypted EFS folders streamed from Twonky using this method.
