Problems with TMS version 5 with Western Digital TV Live
Post
by ld6824 » Tue Nov 24, 2009 1:56 pm
Hello,
I have a problem

with my TMS connnecting to my Mediaplayer WDTVLIVE. With the WDTV you can display the shared folders on the TV and you can display a picture for each folder! The only restriction from WD is, that you must name the picture "folder.jpg" and drag it into the folder which you want to display on the TV. Furthermore you can drop films like e. g. "example.avi" in the folder and for this film you can also display a picture on the TV with the same name as the film like e.g. "example.jpg". Now we come to my problem! The picture for the folder is not displayed! The picture for the film is displayed but when you use the "folder.jpg" and not the "example.jpg" !?!?! If you have just the "example.jpg" in the folder and no "folder.jpg" there is nothing displayed!?! Just a picture from greyscale filmcamera!?!
When is disable the TMS and use the shared folder options from Windows 7 then all the pics are displayed very well !!!
I Think it is a littel problem from TMS! Furthermore the WDTVLIVE is not recognized in the database from TMS, i must use generic player!
It would be greatful, if you could solve this problem, because i like very much the easy of use of TMS !!!
Regards
ld6824 !

Apparently the code is case sensitive so it needs to be called Folder.jpg with a capital F.

When you've changed the filename you then need to rebuild the database.
I remember reading this and thought it was from one of the Twonky people - searched earlier and couldn't find the original post. Sorry! It might have been OK on an earlier version of TMS - when I searched I found a few posts of people having the same issue as you on 5.1.

I have tested on the version 4.4.18 and version 5, the result is no effect! Nothing happen!
Now i have found an interesting answer from the WD Customer help!
Here is the link!
http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg ... _topview=1
In the link above WD says!
- Thumbnail support
will not function on the WD TV Live HD Media player
when connected to a Media Server. You will need to connect to the device as a Network Share to see thumbnails.
For me it is not a solution! I paied for the TMS! I like the soft! But i would like a solution for my problem!

I'm sorry I'm a little confused (and maybe I misread/misunderstood your post), but what exactly do you want Twonky to do? You have a direct quote from WD that says they WILL NOT support the function via any Media Server. Twonky is providing the data, WD is ignoring it. Twonky can't change that. That fact that you paid for TMS wont change that.
Your "solution" is one of two options:
1) Copy your media to a local drive on the WD
2) Wait and see whether WD updates their firmware to support the functionality.

1. I want to share the folders from PC to the WD with TSM easily! TSM do a superb job for this!
2. I want to display thumbnails for my folders with TSM! At this point TSM have problems!
Because TSM confuses to display the right picture on the TV!
e. g.:
A folder is named "film09". In the folder is a thumbnail for the folder named "folder.jpg". Furthermore
is a film named "film09.avi" in the folder with a thumbnail for the film with the name "film09.jpg"!
When I want to see the folder "film09" on the TV with WD there is no picture displayed!
There is a thumbnail from TSM displayed (it is a filmcamera as thumbnail)!?!
When I go into the folder "film09" to see the film "film09.avi" the thumbnail "folder.jpg" is displayed
and not "film09.jpg"!?!
TSM is confused! I think this is an internal problem with TSM!

The Problem is Twonky. I tried 2 other MediaServer. The thumbnails worked well with this ones... Twonky is my favorite still, bur a solution would be nice.
