Hello everyone,
I have some questions about the twonkymedia products and I hope you can help me. At the moment I'm running Twonkymedia server 4.4.5. My question was, what is the difference between Twonkymedia server, Twonkymedia manager and Twonkymedia Beam? Is the version I use now (4.4.5) ok or should I upgrade if I use it as a network between PC's the Noxon iRadio and to stream files on my television in network with a JVC home cinema system?
I hope anybody can help me out.
Thanks,
Bram

Hi Bram
Your question is a very good one.
- TMS is a media server as you know. You can pull local or online media from it.
- TMM includes TMS and has some basic media management capabilities. It also is a digital controller that will let you push media to supported devices like network ready TVs and stereos.
- Beam is a browser plug-in that allows you to push online media to supported devices like network ready TVs and stereos.
- TMS 4.4 is the gold standard for media servers. If you don't need the new features (playlist support, online media, transcoding, etc), there is no reason to upgrade. You should consider upgrading from 4.4.5 to 4.4.18 however. It contains numerous bug fixes.
Let me know if this isn't clear.

Hi Rick,
Thank you very much for your reply, I do now fully understand the difference. I do now actually have a little question about upgrading, when I type in my license key I get this as a option to upgrade:
TwonkyMedia Manager v1 (Server v5 Upgrade) This is an upgrade from my version to the newest version of TMM with TMS included or do I understand wrong? Also will updating be hard and do I need to configure everything again or can I keep my old files and configurations?

If you have a TMS 4.x key and want to run TMM or TMS 5.x, you need to upgrade. You should get a discount if you have an old key.
If you buy TMM, that key will work with every Twonky product (TMS 5.x or TMM)
Upgrading is an easy process, but if you have a custom navigation tree, you may want to wait to upgrade -- because that feature isn't in TMS 5.x.

Ok, thank you for all the information, I think I'll wait until the holidays are over and then upgrade.
Thanks!

I am a newcomer so please excuse if question is naive
I got TMM &TMS restricted to Music & Photo with Philips NP2900
Exploring the site I downloaded TBeam also which works fine
although there is no support for wma files
However now I CANNOT start TMM anymore, with TBeam started or not ,since an error message saying "the server is busy" appears and TMM closes irreversibly, i.e. TMM can't open the server
Should I upgrade?
To which version?
Another question:
Can I install and run XBMC on same computer?
Does TBeam work also with XBMC?
thanks

WMA files are working for us, can you send me a link to an WMA file that doesn't work with Beam? Send to
tmm-beta@pv.com.

Although I haven't seen this before, it could have to do with the file scanner running. Wait 5-10 minutes for it to finish and try again. If you're still having problems, send mail to
tmm-beta@pv.com.

Make sure you're running TMM 1.3. You can find it here:

Yes, and yes.
