Big problems: no mkv-streaming possible

Hi,
My Samsung TV reproduces .mkv via USB (hard disc or stick) perfectly.
I bought a NAS disc WD MyBook World Edition 1TB which now is full of mkv videos.
However, via LAN such videos don't reproduce on the TV (cat5e cable). 'File format not supported'.
All other formats work. It seems to be a known issues (forums) that MyBook with Twonkey Server unfortunately doesn't support mkv streaming.
Now I bought additionally the hardware media player WD TV live HD that WD says supports mkv.
However, connected to the NAS by LAN cable, it doesn't reproduce mkv either (HDMI to TV).
Has anybody an idea why mkv is so difficult (or impossible with Twonkey) to stream?
All devices have latest firmware.
I really feel lost. Could it be a DHCP issue?
