SOLVED: TMS 5.1.2 (Linux) and Philips NP2900: Problem w/FLAC

Post by ThyMaster » Thu Jan 14, 2010 12:37 pm

Hi,

I just introduced my first FLAC files to my music collection and they show up fine on my Philips NP2900 (which is FLAC capable).
But I have problems:
Some if these FLACs play nearly flawless (it takes a few seconds until they start playing). Other though won't play at all (even I waited for 5 minutes to start) but crash my Philips NP2900 instead.

Anyone encountered similar problems with streaming FLACs??

TIA
ThyMaster

Edit: There has been an automatic update from Philips this morning saying it fixes issues withFLAC. And it does: All FLAC files now play fine!

Hi,

I have used Twonky Manager on WinXP with the Np2900 without any issues except that sometimes it appeared to be slow in switching songs. I first thought this was because of my computer downloading/extracting etc. Later on I found it had done some transcoding for those files.

The transcoding thing was ment to be only for the Philips WAS7500 that my son uses and I gues this was a bug or mistake.

Just started my QNAP 439 Pro with TMS 5.1.2 and will test again with .flac files

What happens if you test in the browser on your PC?

Hi,

have you upgraded to the latest NP2900 firmware? It has some improvements for FLAC.

1. In response to user feedback, the NP2900 has been improved to handle very high bitrate FLAC music (now up to 900kbps)

Hi,

thx for the aswers.
Well, I did it all. Actually the Philips plays some of the FLACs (like my Tom Waits stuff) but it won't play my Pili-Pili.flac, no matter what I'm doing..
Strange, but I think it lies on the Philips side...
