Video Thumbnails or Video Cover Art

I previously used Windows Media Connect and then PS3 Media Server on my WHS before deciding to look at TwonkyMedia Server, and I am currently using it on a trial license.

I would like to know if there are any plans to add either video cover art or video thumbnails to Twonky? Both PS3MS and Media Connect could provide them thumbnails, however neither provided cover art (presumably due to the lack of tags in videos besides MP4).

My kids use the PS3 to stream movies I have ripped from DVD so they don't get their mucky hands on the discs, and they used to be able to identify the film they wanted to watch from the thumbnail, however now they have to guess roughly the films position in the list and then work up or down to find it.

PS: My kid is 3yrs old - It's not just that she can't read :D

Hmmm,

the only thing I can think of (for non-MP4 videos) is to create a folder for each movie, move the movie into it and then add a "folder.jpg" as the thumbnail to it. Don't forget to re-build the database afterwards!

The folder.jpg thing doesn't work for me with 5.1.2 WHS. Could be the TV of course (Samsung UN46B7100).

But there doesn't seem to be ANY way to get video thumbnails. And I can't convert my videos (AVIs) to mp4 as I'd lose the surround sound.

I guess there's no solution here. :(

Why would you lose surround sound?
Just convert your AVIs (with I assume 5.1 AC3) to MP4s with 5.1 AAC... PS3 handles that perfectly fine.

You can use tools such as XVid4PSP to make the conversion process easy/user friendly.
