OT: How to recode MP4, level 5 to MP4, level 4

Post by ThyMaster » Mon Feb 22, 2010 3:07 pm

Hi Folks,

this question is a bit OT:
My brand new Sansung phone creates videos using MP4 level 5 codec.
Now my PS3 is not accepting such videos since it only supports MP4 up to level 4.1.

TMS recoding option is obviously not working since it does not differ in between the levels of MP4.
So my question is:
Is there any method to repack MP4s from level 5 down to level 4 without recoding? I mean I don't want to recode since this would kill quality.

Any ideas?

TIA
ThyMaster

There are Linux apps that you can use to separate parts of a video file and then recombine them (StaxRip uses them from memory). That assumes however that the video is really Level 4.1 compatible (see here). Start reading with Avidemux and follow the links for the dozens of other tools until you find ones that meet your requirements ;)
