Twonky 5.1 -Sortorder of audio tracks

Post by fulbrich » Sat Mar 13, 2010 3:41 pm

Hi,
I changed from Twonky 4 to Twonky 5.
Now I find the audio tracks of my ribbed audio CDs unsorted in my NOXON iRadio in the ALBUM View.
What is the sort order of the tracks ? Had that been changed in some way ?

The Album consists of 6 CDs and in the display all TRACK1 are displayed and then all TRACK2 ... that
was different in Twonky 4. Now I hear track1 of CD1, track1 of CD2, track1 of CD3 that is ugly if I hear an audio book.

In Twonky 4 I had first all tracks of CD1 and then all tracks of CD2 sorted of the album.

I use Twonky 5.1.2 WHS Plugin and I guess I have to go back. I should read the forum first, before I bought the license yesterday :-(

Ok, I gone back to Twonky 4.4.4 on my whs.
I don't understand why so much features of v4 had been canceled in v5.
I regret to have bought a v5 license.
I should have tried the 30 days test with 5 .. my failure that I didn't.
It doensn't help me that some features wil be back in v6 ... I won't spend money again.

I'm seeing this problem as well on TwonkyMedia Server 5.1.2. I've ripped both CDs of Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' into one directory. The file names are :

1-01 In The Flesh_.flac
1-02 The Thin Ice.flac
1-03 Another Brick In The Wall (Part 1).flac
...
...
2-01 Hey You.flac
2-02 Is There Anybody Out There_.flac
...
etc

but the Twonky track listing is:

Hey You
In The Flesh?
Is There Anybody Out There?
The Thin Ice
Another Brick In The Wall (Part 1)

Is there any way I can get Twonky to display the tracks in the correct order?

Thanks,
Peter

I changed my navigation tree to "like IPOD" and found a correct sortorder in the media browser of TwonkyServer.
On my NOXON the sortorder is different and wrong with the same navigation tree.
It is possible that this could be changed in some way in the client.db ?

It was fine with 4.4.x but wrong with 5.1.x
I expierience the same on my NOXON radio like pemcg

Hi,
investigate a little bit in my issue. It seems to be something in the way how my NOXON displays the tracks.

a) I rebuilt the Twonky Database -> rescan all my files
b) I checked the following settings:
Image
The server 5.1.1 is Up and running. Rescan is finished.
c) devices
Image
Devices are correct recognized by TwonkyMediaServer
d) Correct order Album View in Media Browser
Image
The Titelel are tagged in iTunes as CD 1 of 5, CD 2 of 5 ..., Track 1 of 15, Track 2 of 15 .....
e) NOXON Album View
Image
The sortorder is different.
f) The Tracks are tagged in itunes. The tracks from different CDs are collected in one directory
Image

http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/4051/itusorder.jpg

This was definitely different with Twonky 4.4.4. In Twonky 4.4.4 was the sortorder in Noxon the same as in the media browser.
I experience the same eror in the Windows Edition of TMS 5.

Now the question of all questions ... where can that be changed back to a correct sortorder.
Has someone already solved the problem in the past ?

Best regards, Frank

Hi

@pemcg
@greeny122229

I am interrested in the typ of streaming device you use. Are using a Noxon Radio ?
I had a look into the clients.db of Twonky 4.4.18 where the sortoder of in device is correct.
The settings a a little bit different there .. I added the entries into the clients.db of Twonky 5.1.1 but it does not change the behaviour in terms of sortorder on my streaming device. Unfortunetely.

I am really disappointed.

Update:
I tried an old XBOX with XMBC as streaming client. The sortorder in the ALBUM view is not correct.
It seems to be that it is a problem of the sortcriteria='+pv:numberOfThisDisc,+upnp:originalTrackNumber' in the definition of the ALBUM view. But .. why does it not work for streaming clients and why does it work with the media browser .. in my case ? :?: :?:

Twonky 5.1.1 is a part of my HP MediaSmart Server ex470 v3 ... I have to stay with Twonky 5 ... but the sortorder makes it nearly to be unusuabel.

Ah, I just started another thread yesterday with the same problem... Anyway, since there is no official comment yet I do not regret it, shall the forum be floated, bescause it's one of the most annoying things in this version of the server (and manager). It affects standalone versions as well as "baked in" versions like on my QNAP TS, where it's impossible to downgrade the server alone without digging deeper into Linux.
The facts are: the node system has been practically castrated to a very basic system. The bad is, that allthough there is a "how to" for the very sophisticated process to create custom nodes for the MediaManager - (actually one of the first requests when TMM was still in beta) this is not possible for the server.

it wouldn't be all that bad if the node system "by folder" or the "folder" submenu in the advanced default navigation did what one would expect to do: browse on file/filename basis. What it actually does is something very weird: it browses on a file/folderbasis but WITHIN the folders it moves over to browsing by metadata (tags). This wouldn't be too bad either if it did this like with every other metabasesd node navigation which is sorting by track numbers. But for some alien reason here (and only here) it sorts by trackname in alphabetical order.

So for ma there are 3 options for Twonky to correct this and 2 for me:

- Twonky moves back to the former very powerful customizable node system
- Twonky harmonizes the sorting systems to track number based on tags for ALL modes
- Twonky makes the "by folder" a real filename based browsing, the customer could (and would need to) create the desired sorting order by naming the files.

- I revert back to an older firmware on my NAS (and I don't want do this because then the HDD spin down does not work with Twonky enabled)
- I move over to another solution (SöimServer on TS) and give up on Twonky

I found a new miracle on my installation.
The sortorder was as expected im my webbrowser sorted by the tags "CD number" and the "tracknumber".
But then it happenend that after a longer period of time 1-2 days, or when I added some sound tracks, that the sortorder changed to "tracknumber" the "CD number" has been ignored.
After restarting the TMS 5.1.1 the tracks are sorted as before "CD number" and then "tracknumber" in my webbrowser, unfortunetely my "NOXON Audio" shows it always sorted by "tracknumber"

I raised a case at twonky, but didn't response till now. I hope they may help me.

hm... that's strange indeed. I see the songs listed in alphabetical order of the song name stored in the tags in PlugPlayer, Philips NP2500, and the media browser itself. Also, how do you manage to display album art in the webbrowser?
[Edit] ah, I see, you browse by some tags not folder... I do browse by folder and it does not regard any metadata like cover art but the silly track names [/Edit]

I tried to find out where the data for CDset number is stored, but I didn't find it.
Trackno contains only the tracknumber.
It should be somewhere. The database is sqllite and can be opened by some tools.

How do you tag the files (as in which tool) do you use)? How is your naming convention for the files?

@kgrosserr,
Hi,
I ribbed and tagged the Audio CDs with iTunes and selected Version ID3 V2.3 for tagging the files by iTunes.
It is done automatically by the software and runs well with twoky 4.4.x and my streaming devices.
But not with version Twinky 5.1.1

I attached a picture from my iTunes Software.

In the meantime I found this experience http://twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... =50#p25292 in the MediaManager Board. There is as well a person experiencing this problem. I can't find a statement from PV there.
My supportcase at PV is already unanswered.

Hi fulbrich,
some noxon devices are using a differend sort order than the one given by twonky server. You can change that behavior by using XM:IGNORESORT in clients.db Some twonky versions have differend noxon device types in client.db (noxon audio v1, noxon audio 2, noxon 2 iradio) For the first two types XM:IGNORESORT is used in clients.db for the third type it's not used.

Hi RG1,

thanks a lot for your hint. I had a look into my CLIENT.DB of TWONKY 5.1.1

Code: Select all

>>
NA:NOXON Audio
AV:M
DD:TerraTec
XM:noutf8
XM:FORCERES
XM:CANNOTREGISTERDEVICE
DB:FIX
XM:NOUTF8SORT
XM:DLNANO
XM:IGNORESORT
and added the following which I extracted from CLIENT.DB Twonky 4.4.18

Code: Select all

>>
//ID:022
NA:Noxon Audio (v1)
AV:M
DD:TerraTec
XM:noutf8
XM:GIVECHILDCOUNT
XM:FORCERES
DB:FIX
XM:NOUTF8SORT
XM:DLNANO
XM:IGNORESORT

>>
//ID:056
NA:NOXON 2 iRadio
AV:M
DD:NOXON 2 iRadio
XM:GIVECHILDCOUNT
XM:FORCERES
DB:FIX
XM:NOUTF8SORT
XM:DLNANO

>>
//ID:021
NA:Noxon Audio 2
AV:M
DD:NOXON2
XM:GIVECHILDCOUNT
XM:FORCERES
DB:FIX
XM:NOUTF8SORT
XM:DLNANO
XM:IGNORESORT

>>
//ID:096
NA:Noxon Audio 2 fw>6300
AV:M
DD:NOXON 2
XM:GIVECHILDCOUNT
XM:FORCERES
DB:FIX
XM:NOUTF8SORT
XM:DLNANO
XM:IGNORESORT
I will perform some testings, but after a quick view I see that the XM:IGNORESORT entry already exists.
Thanks a lot for your answer !

Hi,
I did some testings with the following versions. There had a changed happend in the latest beta

Sortorder CD_number,Tracknumber displayed on my Noxon Radio on Album View

TMS 4.4.4 - ok
TMS 4.4.18 - ok
TMS 5.1.1 - not ok, only by Tracknumber
TMS 5.1.3 - not ok, only by Tracknumber
TMS 5.1.4 - not ok, only by Tracknumber
TMS 6.0 Beta - ok !

I would like to know, if the changed had been performed in the executible file or in an aditional file.
If an additional file had been edited it would work with older versions, if it may copied into an old installation.

In between ... I didn't get a status about my Incident Ticket which I created at Twonky regarding this problem.

I have absolutely the same problem using Twonkymedia Server on a Qnap Nas.
Please Twonky, correct this issue. This makes TwonkyServer nearly unusable!

Same problems as you!

I contacted Twonky support one month ago about this issue. They said that they didn't make any support with Twonky server installed on a Nas (QNAP 239 Pro in my case).

I install Twonky server (5.1 and beta 6) on my computer (Windows 7). Guess what: I have the same problems than on my Nas...

Please Twonky, correct this issue, it's a general problem!

Hi ,
cpicchio and scirocco790

I would like to encourage everyone who has a problem to test this with a "supported" version e.g. a Windows Build.
It may happen, that you have to wait for a very long time - like me - to get a response. It sounded that this problem is absolutely new to them and they offered absolutely no solution.... but do it. Open a support case to produce work and to make them aware that this problem is not a problem of only one person.

I test this on a Windows version and I have the same problem. So, I contact Twonky support and I had this answer :

"Hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience but twonky only support sorting by title of the file.

Thanks,
The TwonkyMedia Team"

Twonky was supporting this in version 4, but not in version 5 (and beta 6). I'm upset against Twonky because they don't want to correct this bug (It was working before!) who is on a major functionnality if you listen to albums (I don't want to add the track number in the title, it's stupid!)

Hi "cpicchio"
thanks a lot for your answer. I didn't get an statement from Twonky Support regarding the problem now.
My conclusion is that they won't fix it for Version 5 . It is quite easy to state .. it it works as designed.
They should describe it in their readme s which features had been removed. Well well

I have the same problem on my buffalo LinkStation Pro LS-XHL.

How that can be possible. How can they not consider this as a bug! I think that everybody here has directly or indirectly paid for this media server. If everybody thinks it's a bug it is a bug! No question.

In the primary school they taught me that 2 comes after 1, and 10 after 9. Do Twonky people think that 10 comes after 1 and 20 after 2? Bad schoolteachers?

I'm really sorry because I seem angry, but it so incredible and you and buffalo support told me I can't do anything because it's twonky responsibility. But they don't think it's a bug... What can I do?

I don't want to rename all my music library.

Hi,
has anyone time to test this isue on version 5.1.5 ? To be honest Idon't expect that this failure had been removed ... it is not mentioned in the readme. The support stated that this product works as designed and albums which consists multiple CDs are not supported in version 5. Maybe they fixed it anyway ... who has time for testing ?

Hi,
I did some testings with the following versions.

Sortorder mp3 tagged: CD_number,Tracknumber - displayed on my Noxon Radio on Album View

TMS 4.4.4 - ok
TMS 4.4.18 - ok
TMS 5.1.1 - not ok, only by Tracknumber
TMS 5.1.3 - not ok, only by Tracknumber
TMS 5.1.4 - not ok, only by Tracknumber
TMS 5.1.5 - not ok, only by Tracknumber
TMS 6.0 Beta - ok !
TMS 6.0 RC4 - ok !

I am disapointed that this issue had not been fixed in the latest 5.1.5 build.
I guess the developer are not aware of this problem ?
Hopefully there will be a WHS 6.0 version availible soon with works with an version 5 key.

Hi,
I did some more testings with the following versions.

TMS 6.0.0 - ok ! (offiziell release - works with v5 licensingkey)

I am very happy that the offiziell release of TMS 6.0.0 works with a v5 licensing key.
My next problem will be to get it installed onHP MediaSmartServer ... the "old" Twonky is mofified and integrated in the
HP software. I guess it is necessary to tweak a lot to integrate it .... or HP will present us an offiziell update.

Hi,

I contacted Twonky Support with same query, and the asnwer is shown below.
"Hi,

Twonky only sort in order of title of the files.
Thanks,
The Twonky Team"

My reply was
"Thanks for the reply

I have to say I think this is very poor. Being able to play an album in it's intended order is essential for me. How would dark side of the moon sound in alphabetical order? I have rolled back to version 4.4.18 as I don't want to have to re-tag my entire mp3 collection.
Won't be buying any more versions unless this feature is re-instated, I'm afraid and have been a customer for over 5 years.
"

I'd suggest those of us who think this is an important feature let Twonky know, obviously in a polite, constructive and appropriate fashion, so future releases can be improved. The version 4.4.18 works with a V5 or V6 key for those of you running on a computer. I think the "tree" customisation is fantastic in this version
