By folder doesn't sort like it used to

Post by kgrosser » Sat Apr 10, 2010 8:00 pm

After upgrading my QNAP TS119 to the latest Firmware I got Twonky Server updated from 4 to 5.1.4 - "Hooray!" I thought - but not for long. [Edit2: just confirmed, it's the same with the standalone 5.1.3 so i think it's located fine here [/Edit]

I found the navigation node system, which I liked very much, was replaced by a very restricted option of 4 choices, not only this, but even none of those 4 works good for me:
I have my collection in T9 like folders ("0+, 2 ABC, 3 DEF ...) with a 2 digit Track number in brackets at the start of each song file name. This helps quick browsing a large collection. Now whether I choose "by folder" or "advanced default" to navigate doesn't make a difference: the track sequence does not follow neither the filenames (which could be expected when choosing a file based structure) nor the track numbers (which would also be logical) but sorts the songs in alphabetical order of the embedded metadata (aka tags) - now, THIS is the most senseless way I could think of and I do not see anyone wanting this. Is there a chance to get the old navigation node system back or if not then at least fix this to a more useful way? Thanks...

I have strictly the same problem on my TS239 PRO NAS with a Denon 4308.

I try to add XM:IGNOREFIX in clients.db (like before in 4.x versions) but it didn't work.

Twonky, PLEASE, correct this!

Hi,
same problem with me.

sorting is alphabetically now, of the tracks in a folder, and this is senseless.

I'm totally frustrated.

Playing beethovens symphonies in wrong order? It just doesn't make any sense.

I'm also totally frustrated having to wait so long for a bug like that!

Same here. How do they think this is a proper way to sort? If anything, sort off the track number, not the song name. Please fix this Twonky!

See this post - http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... 316#p30809 to see the mods I made to one of the view xml files to get this working correctly.

I am having the same problem with my video files collection. I have everything organized by folder and filename, but many of my videos have some kind of tags in them that Twonky (and other DLNA servers) broadcast to the devices instead of the actual file name. These tags mostly contain irrelevant data like "My Video 5" which was probably added to the file by whoever originally digitized the video and didn't know how to use the software correctly.

I have tried TVersity and one or two other DLNA server programs and ALL of them so far seem to do this. This is EXTREMELY frustrating. I don't see any logical reason I should have to go and start sorting out metadata tags on my video files just so I can browse them correctly on my TV set.

We already have an option to browse in a folder view. But what we really need is what ought to be a simple option to implement -- one to allow us to browse the contents of our shared directories by the FILE NAMES contained in those directories rather than the metadata within those files.
