Movies play with USB drive but not with Twonky on Samsung TV

Post by eldaria » Sat May 01, 2010 7:58 pm

Hello.

First the obligatory details.

TwonkyMedia version: 5.1.3-dev Registered.
Server hardware: P4 2.6Ghz, 1.5GB Ram, Plenty of diskspace
Operating System: Ubuntu Intrepid Server (Kernel 2.6.27-17-server #1 SMP)
If you are running as a system service (Windows only): N/A
Client(s) and their software version: Samsung LED-TV UE40B8050, SW version: 2010/01/25_003001
Type(s) of media you are having problems with: Not able to play video.
How many files you have in your database: While testing: 27 Videos, 154 Music, No Pictures
Network type (Wired/Wireless): Wired
Other items on your network (Router make/model for example): D-Link DIR-655

So to the problem.
I'm trying to configure TwonkyMedia Server for Linux to stream movies to my TV, but TV is unable to play most of them.
Now the strange thing is, that if I drop the files on a USB harddrive and connect it to the TV directly they play fine.
But that kind of beats the simplicity of using a Media server.
I have some different files, but let's look at two of them, one that works and one that don't, both work if on a USB drive connected to TV.

This is from ffmpeg -i

First the one that work with Twonky:
Input #0, avi, from 'filname.avi':
Duration: 00:35:18.3, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 2771 kb/s
Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 720x512 [PAR 1:1 DAR 45:32], 25.00 tb(r)
Stream #0.1: Audio: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 128 kb/s

Second the one that does not work when using Twonky but works with USB drive:
Input #0, matroska, from 'filename.mkv':
Duration: 00:42:40.4, start: 0.000000, bitrate: N/A
Stream #0.0(eng): Video: h264, yuv420p, 1280x720 [PAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 tb(r)
Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: liba52, 48000 Hz, 5:1
Stream #0.2(eng): Subtitle: 0x0000

According to manual, the TV should support the format through DLNA.
Supported Video Formats on MKV container:
Divx 3.11
Divx 4.x
Divx 5.1
Divx 6.0
XviD
H.264 BP
H.264 MP
H.264 HP
MPEG-4 SP
MPEG-4 ASP
Motion JPEG

I tried to enable the Transcoding options, but they are all grey, and enabling them directly in the config file does no difference, still not able to play the files.

So what am I doing wrong here?

Heh, interesting, this release must have come very recently, concidering I downloaded this version just a day or two ago, thanks I will try that,

-Edit-
Ah. ok, it was not announced on the download pages (http://twonkymedia.com/installs.html) this is where I got the install I have from, I actually assumed it was the latest version.

I found the download for 5.1.4 in the forum post below.
Downloading now.
