Sony KDL40EX403 setup please ?

Have tried a few servers, and got "wild media" working fine.... but dont like their cowboy licensing scheme - so thought Id give Twonky a go !
Installed and running, but it only sees 4 of my movies ! I assume this is because the TV doesnt support the format my other files are in (?), so I was expecting Twonky to transcode.... am I missing something here ? Setup shows transcoding as greyed out.
Pretty new to this DLNA business, so please go easy on me ! lol .
CAN TMS do what I need, or is this going to need a programming degree ? I would just like it to work
Movies are mostly AVI... xvid etc, but they simply dont exist on the TVs listings - although the folders are there, theres apparently nothing in there !
