SidebySide error at startup

Post by aztec » Thu Jun 17, 2010 10:14 am

When starting WHS, I get the following System Error from Event Viewer.

::::::::::::::::::
System Error
Event ID: 59

Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\TwonkyMedia\wmdrmdll.dll. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
:::::::::::::::::::

I initially thought (from searching) that it was due to a C++ Runtime error but I have since installed/updated those Runtime packages to the 2008 build.

Any solutions to fix this or is this a known bug?

Thanks!

I've logged a support call but it has been a very frustrating exercise.

I keep on going around in circles where they ask we how I installed it, I explain that I ran the application by running it straight on my server, then they keep on asking me the same questions over and over again.

I've logged a support ticket for this error at the beginning of July.

It's now almost two months later with no resolution.

I've heard nothing for a month then today I've received a request to do screen shot of the errors.

I provided a copy and paste of the errors two months ago (listed below) so I fail to see how screen shots will help the situation.

These errors did not exist prior to install Twonky and they do not go away if you uninstall Twonky. Only way to resolve it is to do a clean install of the OS then it comes back as soon as you install Twonky.

Support are just making me go around in circles. They ask me to try the WHS install version which doesn't exist for version 6 which I've tried to explain to them. Then they ask why am I talking about a WHS version when it doesn't exist (which is what I was telling them). Then they sent me the instructions on how to install it on Windows Home Server three times when I explained in my original mail that I followed these instructions.

It's as if they have some part time non IT support person responding to emails every second week when they get around to it.

Seeing I paid for the product, you would assume you would get reasonable support.

FInally got this from support:
Please try updating your windows as this issue is related to the Wups2.dll
file that is included in the latest version of Windows.
I'm running Winodws Home Server with all the latest updates so that doesn't help.

As an owner of two HP MSS servers ex485, ex495
Both running the HP 3.0 version
I do not currently see this problem, nor did I see it on the ex485 with HP 2.5 version

But that doesnt make it any more or less of a real problem

I went and did a search for VC80.CRT on both systems, it does not exist

1.
Does the file VC80.CRT exist on your system?

It does not exist on my servers, but the reason I ask is this
I did a search on the sidebyside error
and came across post that talked about a program doing the same thing
but the issue with the scenario was that ir was referenceing a particular build of it
and the one that existed was different and was causing the sidebyside error

Here is the post
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1420 ... -0-50608-0

2.
When you rebuilt the box, did you do "anything" other than hp/ms updates?
Did you add any other software? just curious

3.
Do you have any protocted wma,wmv files in your media collection?

4.
When you look at the twonky web config for servers status
What is the Windows Media DRM Status show?

5.
Lastly is the native language of the box, english?
Did you use or install any other MUI?

Besides the error, being genereated is it causing you any issue, other than being genereted?

I took another peek around

I found the following folders, notice the VC80.CRT

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Policies\x86_policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_x-ww_77c24773

There are also ones for VC90.CRT

Do the folders anf files I mentioned above exist on your system?

Thanks for the feedback Phil

I had searched around and seen reference to the MS C++ 2005 distributable. Have also installed Squeeze Server as the WHS add-in.

Windows Media DRM shows OK

Native language is English (Australian), but I noticed the Location was USA, and my timezone was still +8, not - 10hrs, so that might impact.

I've now uninstalled Twonky Server, and installed Twonky Manager now.

The event log is clean so far, so may be fix :)...

Cheers
Tony

Nice!

Time will tell :D

Ya know, on my box on the config page for twonky
My drm status is this n/a (click here)
Which is also a link, that takes me to here

http ://hpmss:9000/configpage/wmdrm-trouble.htm

Windows Meadia DRM Troubleshooting
To get WM DRM working properly you have to install Window Media Player 11.
It can be downloaded from here
On some systems you also need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package
which can be downloaded from here (32Bit) or here (64Bit)

I thought that was interesting to note
since it mentiosn Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package
which is part of the info from my previous post

In any case, glad to hear that you aren't seeing that event
keep an eye on it,as I m curious too
