odd artist and album names

I have twonkymedia server version 6.0.1 running on my netgearNAS Duo box
after the upgrade to 6.0.1 I have experianced a list of
?
??
???
????
???? etc
on the album, artist, albumartist views of the music. in both the html and flash views.
The list goes from 1 ? to about 15 ? and is then followed by all the correct artists /albums.
I don't understand what is going on becuase viewing the mp3 tags does not give any ?s, even when I download them showing as ? in twonky.
I'm really confused and any support is appreciated
