Twonkyserver conflict with Internet

Till two days ago my Twonky media server was working perfectly with my TV. Then, without any reason, my client TV Loewe Connect was no more able to connect to Twonky media: its icon was no more present . The TV was displaying the icons of “radio internet” and “video internet” and radio and video ( via internet) were properly working.

My system consists of:
PC with windows XP and Twonky Media 4.4.9
Router: D-Link DSL 2740R with FW 1.16
TV: Loewe connect

The PC is connected wireless to the router and the TV is connected to the router via Ethernet. The router is connected to ADSL.
I found that if I disconnect the router from ADSL and I switch on and off the TV, the TV is able to detect the Twonky server and I can play my music and my video.
If I connect the internet to the router, the TV says that it is no more able to connect to the server .
I can have the same mode of operation if I disable the internet connection in the router.
Any help is really appreciated

Hi fiocco.

Yesterday it worked. Great. So i can assume there should be something correct with your settings.
Now it doesn't. So something must have changed in your network environment.
If not somebody was playing around with the settings, it may be caused by dynamic settings like dhcp and the corresponding routing.

I'm not familiar with your router and i don't know your network settings in detail - so not everything may make sense. Pick the best.

You're telling activating the ADSL connection makes the difference. When you connect to ADSL the ADSL IP and routing resources are dynamically set. Look at the routers status page to see the changes while you connect ADSL.

In general, the ADSL IP may change to the providers discretion (depending on your type of ADSL connection and configuration). So, if - accidently - IP addresses in the same network address range are used for your local network (the routers LAN settings) and the ADSL connection this will likely cause a behavior you describe.

How is your tv's IP config set? dhcp/dynamic?
Although the twonky's resources are announced via upnd/dlna i prefer a static IP address at this server (your PC).

Is the routers dhcp server enabled?
Do you have another dhcp server active in your network?
Try to disable the routers dhcp server and see what happens.

Another possibility may be the routers "Default Route" setting (Enable/Disable in ADSL connection setup). Some devices behave like they are the only device that knows the correct route to the resource of your desire (called "proxy arp").
If enabled try to disable.

If this doesn't help get back with more details.

good luck

Hi tiff,

thanks a lot for your very detailed analysis. The strange thing is that yesterday night after switching on and off the TV ( I don’t know how many times I did it!) everything started to properly working again: the TV was able to see the server and the router was connected to ADSL. So now everything is OK.
When the problem will be present in the future ( I hope not) I’ll monitor the router status page.
In my previous message I forgot to tell that once a streaming connection was established everything was OK even if with ADSL connected. So when the TV was not able to find the server my procedure was:
1. Disable ADSL
2. Switch on/off the TV
3. The server was detected and I was able to start my movie
4. Enable the ADSL while watching the movie
5. When the streaming was finished the TV was no more able to detect the server
My TV’s IP is dynamic and even my PC is dynmic
Router DHCP server is ON. I don’t have other DHCP servers.
On the router I have enabled PPPoE/PPPoA .
Once more thank you, I’ll keep you updated
