Twonky 5.16 and mkv

Ever since I upgraded from 4xx to the Twonky 5, my WD Live can no longer see any MKV files.

If I rename them to wmv, Twonky will display the files fine...

Since most of my content is HD, this has left Twonky to be useless on my QNAP NAS.

Should I downgrade Twonky or does anyone know a fix for this. Seems to be a common issue on various forums with no real solution...so here I am at the source of twonky looking for an answer.

Thanks,

Darrin.

I had the same problem with my WD My Book World NAS since the latest WD firmware upgraded Twonky from 4.x to 5.1.4-1. Unfortunately looked like that the latest 5.x Twonky releases were affected by a bug that made files with .MKV extension to be added to Audio files instead of Video files list. This bug has been fixed in the 6.x releases and from what I know 5.x releases are no longer supported (NAS/ARM builds are not supported in any case) so manually upgrading to 6.0.23 or later is required to make MKVs to be listed whithout renaming the files (upgrade is free for licensed users since 5.x license keys are valid also on 6.x versions but if you have a WD OEM version like me you will have to buy a license).

Don't know exactly if QNAP is the same as WD My Book World (a small linux box based on ARM processor with an internal hard disk) but in my case I had to connect to my NAS with a SSH shell and follow this tutorial:

In a similar way you should get from Twonky a NAS build compatible with your ARM processor and uclib or gclib libraries and do some similar steps but and as you can see some linux expertise will be required otherwise you could brick your device.
