Sony Bravia streaming … so near and yet so far!

Hi,

I've managed to install TwonkyServer 6.0.23 on my first-generation MyBook World device. I also installed ffmpeg to allow transcoding and have ticked the option to transcode videos to MPEG2.

Unfortunately I still can't see any videos on my TV, a Sony Bravia KDL32EX400. The folders are all there and I can navigate through them in the same way as through the web interface - but none of the video files show up when I go into any of the folders. Instead, I just get a message that "There are no items to display".

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,
I have Twonky 6.0.28 installed on my Thecus N4100pro, but need to be able to install the transcoding part, it looks like you have been able to install ffmpeg onto a NAS, please can you tell me where you got the module/or software and some idea of install.
My Panasonic Bluray can see the network and produces the folders in the directory, but my files are AVI and it wont play them. I need to trascode to mpeg2 or mpeg4.
Please help
Thanks

Hi guys,

Ditto the problem for me too.
I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40NX700/W and have Twonky version 5.1.4-1 on a Western Digital MyBook NAS.
In a nutshell: no videos are visible on my TV, but folders are visible and navigable. Only message is "There are no items to display". Music and Photos are OK on TV though!! I've tried placing a couple of mpeg-2 movies on server but without success!

If anyone has a solution to this I would be very grateful if they could post it here.

Paul

Hi I got a KDL32E4000 and go the same problem....but there is hope.
Recently I stored videos from my new Canon HD video recorder on my Twonky server and I'm able to see them and play them through the DLNA browser on my KDL32E4000.

The format for these files are ".mts" which is AVCHD, MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. It runs full HD 1920x1080 and looks stunning.
This is the only format I have been able to display through my KDL32E4000 (not a bad one by the way).

The challange now is to get the transcoding working and convert my videos to AVCHD.

I have created another post on the issue here:

I was also successful getting TwonkyServer 6.0.28 to work with my Bravia KDL-46EX710. I did two things. Initially I changed the media receiver setting to KDL-26J3000. In looking at the config file, this forces DLNA 1.0. However, in the process of moving my videos around, I restarted my server and re-indexed from scratch. In doing so, the receiver switched back to Bravia (DLNA 1.5), but things continued to work. I do not recall if I re-indexed my content after I upgraded to 6.0.28, so this may have been the ultimate fix.

I am now able to play my two standard formats. The first is AVCHD from my Canon HD camcorder:

Input #0, mpegts, from '20100627131829.mts':
Duration: 00:00:56.57, start: 0.467711, bitrate: 16073 kb/s
Program 1
Stream #0.0[0x1011]: Video: h264, yuv420p, 1920x1080 [PAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 59.96 fps, 59.94 tbr, 90k tbn, 59.94 tbc
Stream #0.1[0x1100]: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 256 kb/s

The second is h264 that is converted from DV footage from my older Sony DV camcorder using Cyberlink MediaShow 5:

Input #0, mpegts, from '20090828133530.M2TS':
Duration: 00:00:26.73, start: 0.400411, bitrate: 6753 kb/s
Program 1
Stream #0.0[0x1011]: Video: h264, yuv420p, 720x480 [PAR 10:11 DAR 15:11], 59.96 fps, 59.94 tbr, 90k tbn, 59.94 tbc
Stream #0.1[0x1100]: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 256 kb/s

Hope this helps! I know I've spent a bunch of time getting it figured out.

Please fix so that it is possible to stream videos to DLNA TVs, I have a new Sony KDL-40NX700 that supports MPEG2 so this should work. Photos and music OK, videos not. I have read through a lot of forums and this seems to be a major issue with the 6.0.30 version.

I've finally made this work - thanks to Sog DVD Ripper. This program makes MPEG2 files in just the way the Sony likes. Other (random) ripping programs all failed to work for my TV. I truly recommend this DVD ripping device.

BUT: Album art/images for the video films do not display anywhere, I've tried to name them the same as the movies, eg "Superman.jpg" for the movie "Superman.mpg". Any thoughts or is this a flaw either against Sony or with the Sony TV itself?
