Twonkyserver stops playing EVERY HD-Video after 20-50 min
Hi,
I´m using twonkyserver 6.0.1 (newer versions list only some, but not all videos ?!) with a Thecus NAS and a Kiss 1600
media player.
I´ve got some HD videos (H.264/AC3) in .ts Format with a size of 4-13 GB and a resolution of 720p,1080i, 1080p each video. Twonky and my mediaplayer just play this videos fine, BUT ONLY for about 20 - 55 min - then the video stops unexpectedly.
When playing this videos from the same source, but with a PC media server, such as the Kiss Software all plays fine.
It is NOT a network problem, because it´s GB wired network and other videos (DivX,MPEG) play for hours and hours.
If I play a HD video and let my media player show the whole video length, it will also show me only 20 - 55 min max. ???
Why does twonky stop playing (only HD-) video after some time ?
Any ideas ?
Thanks a lot,
kind regards from germany
Martin

Running 6.0.30, and older, versions on my Ubuntu server I've never seen that problem.
If you enable the logging, does the Twonky log show anything? If you upgrade to 6.0.30 does the problem go away?

I don`t think, that logging will give me any new information.
A video with e.g. 100 min playing time is shown as video with e.g. only 40 min playing time by the twonky server, so there is no unexpectedly interrupt or something else.
I did some testing with changing the device in the twonky server, but without success - always a too short playing time
I had already installed v6.0.28, but this version didn´t show all media files, only a limited number ... ?
V6.0.30 is still not available for my Thecus NAS.
This problem occurs ONLY with .ts HD video files ... never seen with avi, wmv etc.
Kind regards
Martin

Re: Twonkyserver stops playing EVERY HD-Video after 20-50 min
It sounds like a problem either with your NAS (4 GB file size limit?) or the files themselves, I'd suspect the first. You can probably get an indicator by looking at the file sizes and durations and work out roughly how long 4 GB would be. It won't be precise because bit rates aren't necessarily constant, but if your 100 minute file is 10 GB in size then 40 minutes would be about 4 GB.

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
Definitely neither, nor!
1) The NAS filesystem is XFS, which has a size limit of 8 exabytes
2) The videos play just fine -and the whole lenght- with other mediaserver (Kiss PC-Link).
Perhaps, twonkyserver has a problem with files over 4GB in .ts-format ?
kind regards,
Martin
PS: I´ve just tested a video with 3,1GB:
twonkyserver length: 33:38 min (too short)
Kiss Media-Server : 51:00 min

Don't know then, though I'll admit that I always turn my media into MKV files to make them play on all my devices.

O.k., thanks for your help so far.
Twonky support is not very customer-friendly: running twonky on a NAS == NO SUPPORT
Unfortunately my devices do not play mkv files
Have a nice time and a Happy New Year,
Martin

Well, it's generally up to the device manufacturer to support the device, I'm not surprised that Twonky provide minimal support for embedded installs. It also doesn't help that with this being the Christmas and New Year period they'll be on minimal staffing.
There are other file formats you can convert to, such as MP4, that will allow you to massively reduce the size of your files with no identifiable quality loss should you chose.

Well, Thecus does support twonkyserver, but only one version - I think 5.xx.
And of course, if you have a problem, Thecus will sent you to twonky and vice versa
Transcoding the video´s means having at least one high-perfomance PC
I can avoid this problem using twonky for general videos and using a second media server (not running on the NAS) to serve only the high-res videos.
BTW, I´m having another nerving problem with ALL Twonky versions greater 6.01 ?!
All this versions do not show all media files in a dir.
I have installed v6.023 - missing 50% medias - Un-installed - v6.01 installed - showing all media files!
I have installed v6.028 - just the same.
I have installed v6.0.30 - make a guess: yes, also not all media files ..... so I´m still runnung 6.01
Of course I let twonky create a new database again and again and of course I let twonky read the shares again ...
Any ideas ?
kind regards

None I'm afraid, I run Twonky on a full Linux install and it serves up everything that the player supports. Are you sure that Twonky isn't serving up some files (ie have you checked the web interface)?
