AVI playback loses sound and stutters after 30 seconds or so

Hi,
I have had a look and can't seem to see anything on this, perhaps someone can help.
I have twonky server installed on a d-link DNS-320 NAS. Setup seems to be ok and I can see all the files etc
I am streaming to a TVIX 6500 media player.
Whenever I play any AVI file, it takes longer than other formats to start, plays for about 30 seconds, then loses sound and the video starts to stutter - it almost looks like a bandwidth issue, but its not. If I use the TVIX and connect to the NAS via a PC and play the same files, they load quicker and play smoothly throughout.
So, this shows that the TVIX supports the format and bandwidth isn't an issue.
I have tried setting the Media Receiver type to different players but this hasn't made any difference - I'm a bit stumped now, as I shouldn't have to transcode the avi file, but it looks almost like the twonky is doing this and the NAS can't cope.
Can anyone offer any suggestions please?
Thanks.
