Device URL in PlugPlayer and 6.0.30

This is sort of a PlugPlayer problem, but this is also the best place to look for an answer.

I'm trying to set up PlugPlayer to work over 3G on an iPhone, using Twonky Server 6.0.30 on my home PC.

PlugPlayer won't let me read the entire Device URL. Thanks to the iPhone's supposedly great design, because I'm clicking in the middle of a word, nothing happens...

I read http://192.168.1.2:9000/TMSD . . . and I can't get to the end of that string to read it all.

Does anyone know the path to the DeviceDescription.xml file--or whatever 6.0.30 is using in place of one?

Thanks. I've spent so long looking for it that if we were driving, my wife would have won the argument to pull over and ask for directions.

Hello,

In this case the full URL is
http://192.168.1.2:9000/TMSDeviceDescription.xml

regards,
Heikki

Thank you, Heikki.
I'm still not able to get it to work over 3G, but I feel like I'm a step closer.
If I make any progress, I'll put my results here to help out anyone else who comes along.

Anyone want to cut out the middleman and tell me how they got Twonky to an iPhone over 3G using PlugPlayer?

Thanks.
Dave

As I only have a 2 gig/month plan for 3G wireless internet I have not bothered to configure it over the net. Just wondering how you are doing this - Are you using a VPN over 3G to log in and access your home network, then once logged in, trying to stream from that machine to the Plugplayer app over the internet?

I'm using Plugplayer with my iPhone 4 without any issues, both with Twonkyserver v4.4 and 6.0. Mind you I am using my "Wireless g/n" resources to access my internal network from home.

Ronster,

I'm going to tread carefully here and seek forgiveness from Mark and Rick in advance. Since this is a Twonky forum, I don't want to go too far astray from the product I'm actually here for.

I'd recommend PlugPlayer to anyone with an iPhone, a LAN, and Twonky. The performance is slick for my collection of jpg, mp3, and mp4. Over 3G, when I finally got PlugPlayer to work, it would go for about seven seconds before stuttering, even on a 192K mp3 file. VPN crashed Plugplayer. I've had to switch to Orb. I hate running a second server, but it works over the Internet.

I let go of Twonky 4.4 a long time ago and committed to the 6.0 line. Inspired by Briain, I even tried a little xml editing. Not too bad for an idiot Windows user. Twonky 6.0 does not break. I'm happy with it.

I'm looking forward to seeing the 6.1 version that was being talked about a year ago. I don't really get why it is that there are functions in the twonky-server.ini file for 6.0.30 that just don't seem to make any difference in its operation (httpremoteport, dyndns, and so on). I'm not sure why version 6 would remove functions that were present in 4 and look forward to the day when all of these functions are taken over by some sort of Twonky-produced app.
