New Philips TVs do not work with TS 6.0 [solution provided]

Hi, I'm sure you already know it, as I've read some posts on the topic. Anyway, this is so much critical that it worth a new, specific post. Running TwonkyServer 6.0.30 on QNAP 419P+, it is not possible to achieve DLNA functionalities on Philips 40PFL8605H but, just pure streaming if using profile Philips Streamium AV.
This is not acceptable! Please fix Philips TV profile in the next release!!
Thanks!

Hi,
i have the same problem with Qnap 859 Pro and Philips TV 32PFL9705K/02.
And in Qnap Forum there are some others with Philips xxPFL9705 TV's who have reported the same issue.

If you engineers need log files to fix it. Please let me know and i'll send you mine.

I have the same problems with my Philips 37PFL7605H. I have to use the Philips Streamium AV profile to get video playback but then images appear as thumbnail size only. Will you please make a working Philips profile, they are one of the big three TV vendors now.

Hi,
here is the profile for Philips TV delivered with 6.0.31.Should work but I have no Philips Tv to test.

Code: Select all

>>
NA:Philips TV
HH:Allegro-Software-WebClient/4.61 DLNADOC/1.0
H2:Streamium/1.0
DB:FIX
XM:DLNA10
TR:JPEG1920x1080

This is delivered with 6.0.30
>>
NA:Philips TV
HH:Allegro-Software-WebClient/4.61 DLNADOC/1.0
H2:Streamium/1.0
DB:FIX
XM:DLNA10
TR:JPEG1920x1080
Seems to be the same? This don't work for me. My TV is DLNA 1.5 compatible. So we have to wait for a fix.

We've opened a ticket for this issue. Hopefully we can reproduce this on one of our Philips TVs. If not, it might be hard to fix. To check status on this issue in the future, send mail to tmm-beta@pv.com and ask me about DLNA-3531. Thanks.

Are you still working on this topic? I'm having the same problem with my Philips 40PFL8605. All video files are listed but marked with an [x] logo and can't be played. Selecting the Steamium instead of the Philips TV profile makes most of the videos playable but lacks any fast forward function. This is extremely annoying when you want to finish watching the movie the next day or accidently hit a button on the remote while watching..

The above issue was supposed to have been addressed. The fix will appear in TwonkyServer 6.0.33 RC4 (or later). This update should be posted on http://www.twonky.com by the end of the month. The new profile is called "Philips Renderer TV". Please send mail to tmm-beta@pv.com, if this update does not address your issues. Thanks.

- Rick

Update: 6.0.33 has been delayed. Last I heard that new date was June 9th, but that was just a rumor.

Is there still going to be a 6.something Version with a fix for the Philips TV or are you all working on the version #7?

Sorry about that. You can blame Bri this time.

He found an issue that we wanted to fix before we released. The new date is June 16, but it could easily take a few more days to get it up here.

Please check the release notes to see if it addresses the issue with Philips TVs. If it doesn't please let me know, and I'll check on the status of that in TS 7.0.

Hi! Finally I had the opportunity to test Twonky 6.0.33 via QPKG installed on my QNAP 419P+.
However, if I am not missing something, I experienced the same issues of 6.0.30. In this case, the new Twonky has been able to detect and set the right "Philips Renderer TV" but when using this profile or the "Philips TV" profile, I keep on getting a X on each movie file during browsing, as well as an "Unsupported file" error when trying to play the file.
Instead, as usual, when using the profile "Philips Streaming AV", I can play the files but DLNA features are not available.
So, the question is, I am missing something or nobody has tested Twonky 6.0.33 yet on a Philips 8000 series?
After several months waiting, it does not work yet!! :(
Regards

TwonkyServer 6.0.33 RC4 has NOT been posted anywhere yet. It's late and is being replaced with TS 6.0.34. After that is released, please test and see if the Philips fix is in there. It will NOT be in earlier builds of TS 6.0.33.

Thanks Rick for this clarification.
I really hope that R&D will not forget to include the Philips fix in the next official 6.0.34, otherwise it means for us a new long eager wait...Please consider our big issue as important because we do have a Twonky Server but, at the end, we cannot make use of it!
Thanks a lot for your support

Hi Rick,
due to the delay on releasing a QPKG from QNAP for Twonky 6.0.34, so far I didn't have the opportunity to check if all the issues reported for previous Twonky releases and Philips x605 TV have been fixed!
Anyway, while waiting for QNAP, I had a look at 6.0.34 release notes, and I haven't found any evidence of Philips issues being fixed. Are you sure that the fix has been included in this release?
Release notes for TMS 6.0.34
------------------------------------------------

Bug Fixes
-fixed: File scanning issue on Windows network drives
-fixed: Roku soundbridge cannot stream aac/m4a
-fixed: UPnP Discovery broken w/ Linn control point
-fixed: Web Config UI not working properly with Internet Explorer 9
-fixed: improved ssdp responses to M-Searches with MX=1
-fixed: Aggregation not always indexing all items, if there are items of unknown type to TwonkyServer

Changes
o Disabled the NMC Stationary service in TwonkyServer
o Added Linn Bubble DS to clients DB
o removed useless client adaptatiion option XM:NOAAC320FORAAC192

Please, do not forget that Philips TV customers in late 2011 are still unable to use full DLNA functionalities on their TV with Twonky server.
Thanks a lot and regards.

Hi Rick,
finally I had the opportunity to test Twonky 6.0.34 and, unbeliavable to say, again any of the Philips profiles does not work. This is very frustrating since we're waiting this fix from a long time...my first post was in February on release 6.0.30 and, the issue should have been addressed at least two release ago!
I am now a very very angry customer because I feel I've been cheated. Can you finally do something true and serious for me and other Twonky/Philips customers apart from stating each time that the issue has been addressed and it is included in the next release?

A disappointed customer.

Very sorry to hear about this. I know that some work was done on this. These types of problems are very frustrating for us as well because there are so many different models of TVs and so many different years and so many different versions of firmware. I know this now works on all of our Philips TVs. What model do you have?

You might want to manually try some of the other profiles and see if any of those work better.

Hi Rick,
thanks for the reply. I have the Philips 40PFL8605H running the latest firmware 140.39.
I already tested all of the Philips profiles and the only one, at least usable, is the "Philips Streamium AV" but it's pure streaming without DLNA features such as FF and REW. All the rest of Philips profiles, especially the negotiated one "Philips Renderer TV", do not work and mark with a X each video file during browsing, as well as an "Unsupported file" error when trying to play the file.
Thanks for you help!

Normally the X is displayed when the device reports to us that it can't play a format. You might want to try again after TS 7.0 ships because it was have transcoding and may help with this.

1. Can you please check if developers do really included a fix for the Philips TV profiles?
2. When do you expect to release Twonky 7.0?

I checked before I made my post here. They really did do some work on this. We're trying to get a newer TV from Philips as well. That's probably what it will take before we can fully resolve this.

TS 7.0 is currently scheduled for release on Aug 12, but it's possible that date will slip to the end of Aug.

Hi,

I went on with experimenting with the profiles.

I have found that the profile Philips Media Streaming AV also worked. I added teh Philips TV with the MAC address and IP address in order the enforce the profile. But unfortunatley is stopped working after a day. It seems that the twonky server restarted and removed the profile.

Glad to see that you will be receiving an new TV!

Jurgen

Hi Rick,
again thanks for your periodical notifications. Anyway, I've seen too much releases to be elected as the one giving us the opportunity to use at last our Philips TV with Twonky so, once I see it, then I will believe you've done a good job for us.
So far, only broken promises and too much movies started and watching stopped for any reason, unable to continue watching because of a missing, basic Fast Forward to be used. Sooo sad!

What!? If you get a TV? I don't understand...Twonky has never tested his Philips TV profiles with a TV set? Now I understand why, after several months, it doesn't work yet...And I keep on waiting endlessly!
As regards FF/REW, please consider that Philips 8605H is DLNA 1.5 certified and FF/REW, simply works with other Media Servers, except for Twonky...
I ask you again, please definitely tell me if I have to wait your efforts or I need to look for a different Media Server!
Still disappointed...

Hi Rick, i understand you haven't a tv but i made many many many tests with every version of server since rel 6.0.1 and always sent many many many logs to your eng. team

philips tvs are dlna certified as other tvs like sony, panasonic , samsung

but reading this forum the server has problems with all brand

so what type of TV i need to buy to use twonky server without problem

last but not least FF and subtitle are DLNA 1.5 compliance, if doesn't work the problem is in your code

i do not want to spend other money to buy another server, but i understand twonky is very limited and always in beta

still disappointed

Like it or not. The only way we can fix a problem like this is to get the device which is having problems in our test lab. We already have at least one Philips TV in our Berlin lab and it's working fine, but it's not a 2011 model. Logs do not normally help us solve problems like this. Philips TVs may be DLNA-certified and TwonkyServer 6.0 is DLNA-certified, but that isn't a guarantee that they will work together.

Right now we are having the fewest problems with Samsung TVs. The new Sony TVs look promising as well, but we haven't done much testing with those yet.

Even though Samsung TVs work pretty well, in most cases you're better off with an external digital media player like WDTV or Apple TV.

I sent another reminder to our Berlin office about this, to make sure they are still trying to get a new TV.

as I said before, I own a Philips 40PFL8605H which is a 2010 model and, as you well know, it doesn't work. Considering that the model in the Berlin lab it's not a 2011, can you please share the exact model that it's working fine for you?
Try to imagine how many Twonky & Philips customers in the world would benefit of few, important tests from you!
6.0.x, 7.0 whatever it is, and you have tested only one Philips TV...I can't believe it!

on my 7605 with server version 5.1.6 i play all type of video files and codec (avi xvid mp3, mkv h264 ac3, mp4, etc...) without problem (no FF or subtile)

i think "just copy and paste the code" ;)

STATUS UPDATE:

We finally received a new Philips TV and immediately started looking for issues and as some of you have confirmed, it doesn't play many file formats even though it is correctly detected as Philips Renderer TV. This reason for this is because they are now using new player software in all of their TVs.

To fix this we had to create a new Philips Renderer TV entry for their new TVs. This was not an easy task. Thanks Florian for doing this!

The new Philips Renderer TV entry has been added to a new clients.db file for TS 6.0 which I've attached here. NOTE: Because the forum does not allow a db extension, I've changed it to clients.db.doc. You MUST edit this after downloading this or it won't work. Delete .doc.

It was also included in the XML-based client db for TS 7.0. We are finding that all .avi and xvid content plays fine now.

Can some of you try this with your TVs and let us know what you find? Keep in mind the videos you are playing must be supported by the new Philips TVs.

Hi Rick,

first of all thank you very much for your efforts. I finally had the opportunity to test the new clients.db file provided on my Twonky 6.0.34. I must admit that a good step forward has been done, as I can confirm that the Philips Renderer TV profile, automatically negotiated, finally works.
Unfortunately it is not enough...again FF/REW do not work and it is just streaming not DLNA! The Philips Renderer TV profile seems to be equal to Philips Streamium AV...
Please, I ask you one more effort...FF and REW are fundamental! I need DLNA functionalities not pure streaming.
Thanks and regards

Try using the Panasonic Viera definition. FF works as well as a lot of the mp4/avi files. I tried changing the philips profile in clients.db file myself to make it more in line with the Panasonic profile, but on the iomega i-200 NAS this file appeared to be read only and pretty complicated to get this file changed.

However, when you use twonky on windows you can easily change the philips profile in this clients.db yourself, making it dlna1.5. That will probably solve a lot of problems. Don't forget to back up the orginal :D

Thanks a lot!

Anyway, as suggested by Joop, I tried the Panasonic VIERA profile and...surprise: FF works! But unfortunately the profile itself allows to watch very few media types (e.g. mkv files are unsupported...). I guess that this is finally allowed by the setting:

XM:DLNA15

included in the Panasonic VIERA profile. So, as soon as I find more time to perform some further tests, I'll try to change the Philips Renderer settings in the clients.db in order to make it work with DLNA1.5...

@Twonky: Joop has discovered an important path to definitely fix the Philips Renderer profile...Please investigate further on this!!
Thanks and regards

Maybe you can provide a working clients.db file named 2010 Philips TVs?

This ticket is still open. The last comment was back in Oct. You can read it below. I'll contact them and see if they can look at this again.

It seems that the FF/REW capability is only available for some Profiles. However if we add the DLNA Profile a lot of files will not play at all , if we don't add the DLNA profile FF/REW will not work.
So therefore we are looking into having the DLNA profile displayed when the Profile is certified and not in the other cases.

Well Rick, that's exactly what i found out too. I also tried to create a new profile with some settings from the Panasonic profile and some from the Philips Renderer TV profile, but there was no combination that made more files play- and FF/REW-able than the Panasonic profile :o(
