I have found very little information on this setting
In the ini file i see this
# NMC mode (0:disable, 1:stationary, 2:mobiledirect, 3:mobileremote, 4:standalone)
nmcmode=0
And from a changelog for TMM I found this
Network Media Controller
This release contains a powerful new feature, which is unique to Twonky software.
It's called Network Media Controller and will allow future versions of products like Twonky Mobile
to share their queues with TwonkyManager or TwonkyServer,
so playback continues even when the phone is turned off.
I found these searching the foums

Hi Phil,
Here is my understanding of this:
Devices like Twonky Mobile running on a mobile phone, or TwonkyManager running on a PC are supposed to automatically hand off their queues to a NAS running TS 6.x.
In theory, you could use this to change TwonkyManager from a mobile NMC to a stationary NMC. In reality, I don't think this has been tested much (if at all), since the focus is on always on devices like NAS.
