Thanks for the new release.

Can I report that the Linux manual install ZIP file on the downloads page is broken...? :(

( http://www.twonky.com/upfiles/twonkymed ... -6.0.3.zip link on the page http://www.twonky.com/support/downloads.aspx )

I'd like to test ASAP - just building a new unRAID server.

Cool! I think I must be losing my edge - I normally spot things like that and figure it out for myself.

Now installed and testing.

Many thanks for your help.

There seems to be a problem with the cache/thumbnails in 6.0.32 on Linux.
My old installation 6.0.28 created a cache of ~ 9MB
6.0.32 only creates 3,5 MB and the thumbnails for the videos do not show up in none of my XBMC's anymore
I've checked a backup and there is a massive ammount of folders in the old cache and cache/images - the new one only has few folders...

The thumbnails show up on my PS3 and in the flash-browser though.
The XBMC on my Mac shows "no pic (XBMC-default-pic)" for movies that have thumbnail.

I've deleted the cache and reinstalled 6.0.28 and the new cache has ~ 9MB again.
I guess I'll have to wait for a while until twonky recreates all the thumbnail? Is there a way to force this?

..and the paths are still wrong in the *.location - files ... it's still /usr/bin and not C:\
The clients.db is still gets reset on a restart. Thats kind of annoying.
;-)

..:: update ::..
after giving 6.0.32 a little time, the thumbs got lost in TwonkyManager and the Flash-Browser as well.
I've downgraded to 6.0.28 --> Thumbs in Flash and TwonkyManager

It seems that ImportResource (UPNP Content Directory action) is not working. Action returns no error but TwonkyServer does not even try to retrieve the external content. As "DestinationURI" (ImportResource argument) I use "res@importURI" returned by TwonkyServer as a result of "CreateObject" call. Everything is OK when I use TwonkyServer 6.0.30 or 6.0.28 with the same settings as in 6.0.32. When I use HTTP POST instead of "ImportResource" (after using "CreateObject" to get "res@importURI") everything works fine.

My settings:
- TwonkyServer 6.0.32 installed on Windows7
- Ubuntu with GUPnP Universal Control Point to invoke CDS actions on TwonkyServer

Just installed the 6.0.32 and everything works great. Good job Twonky!

There is still the issue with the lack of "auto-rotate" of pictures. Horisontal pictures are shown fine, but vertical are shown the wrong way.

Also a resume function would be fantastic. Come on people, we are almost there, at DLNA-Nirvana! :D

Is this something it used to do, or is it something you wish it to do?

Hi,

I mainly use twonky for music and until now I have been using TwonkyServer 5.1.6 and thought I would upgrade to 6.0.32. It all seems to work very well except one thing, when playing a track the 'composer' is displayed instead of 'artist' when I switch back to 5.1.6 all works fine.
I'm streaming to a LaCie LaCinema HD Connect.
Any help much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Hayden

UPDATE- If I set the media receiver as WD TV HD Live Media Player, the correct 'artist' tag is displayed.

Thanks for the new version!

I watch a lot of videos over TwonkyServer, and sometimes hiccups have occurred in the last couple of versions. Unfortunately, it happens with this one, as well: after I have watched a few episodes of whatever series I am watching at the time, the video plays 30 minutes or so of an episode then begins at the beginning again. I have to restart the server to get things working correctly again, and when I do, the server begins to rebuild the database! This can't be right, right?

Daphne

P.S. I am using TwonkyServer 6.0.32 to stream .AVI files to my Philips Blueray player BRD 7500/2

It is probably doing a rescan and not rebulding the database. Does this happen all of the time or just sometimes? If it's possible for you to send us a test file. That could save us a lot of time trying to reproduce this.

You can upload test files to our FTP server by following these directions:

1. On a Windows PC. Open Windows Explorer. You can find it under the Start menu under All Programs/Accessories/Windows Explorer.

2. Paste the following into the Address bar on Windows Explorer: ftp://sftp.pv.com/upload

3. You should see a folder appear under Internet Explorer labeled sftp.pv.

4. If you expand it, you should see another folder labeled “upload”. Copy your problem file into this folder and send a message to tmm-beta@pv.com letting us know what the file is named, along with details about the problems your experiencing.

Great that new releases come out regularly.

i've got a question to HIBERNATION and SYNOLOGY DS-10x NAS devices.

i still have TwonkyServer 6.0.31 installed and have the impression that my HDD inside my DS-106e NAS never went hibernate since then.

Does anybody have the same issue and is there a version of TwonkyServer where this has been fixed? is it still present in 6.0.32?

thanks in advance for your answers.

A lot of people seem to have problems with Kirkwood 6.0.32. Everybody has the server running without streaming the files to clients. Can you guys have a look into the code?
Solution (until now): Kirkwood 6.0.31-RC6.

I'd like to report 2 issues that are specific to Roku SoundBridge clients...

1. Roku SoundBridge clients see all .m4a files as Apple Lossless and so cannot play AAC files with this extension such as iTunes downloads and iTunes library files ripped to AAC from CD. (I think this is quite an old problem.) Note: I also have a lot of Apple Lossless files in my TwonkyServer library which I am able to play and which I want to be able to continue to play, so ideally both AAC and Apple Lossless should be playable on the SoundBridge (since it supports both codecs).

2. TwonkyServer identifies Roku SoundBridge clients and offers the native SoundBridge UI for library navigation and playback (a nice feature, BTW). However, the Genre selection mode is broken when used with TwonkyServer. It works fine with Firefly but I would rather use TwonkyServer since it serves my other needs better. Most searches, e.g. Artist, are followed by Album (display is <Show all matching albums> with a list of albums beneath) and Song (display is <Show all matching songs> with a list of songs beneath) with the option to choose an item to then search deeper or to press play at any level (so one can easily play an artist's entire selection). If the Genre search is taken, then only the message <Show all matching albums> is shown with no albums listed. At the songs level only the message <Show all matching songs> is shown with no songs listed. Only if the user selects <Show all matching songs> is it then possible so see any media and then choose to play it. This is not how the Roku UI is supposed to work, and I am pretty sure this was correctly implemented in Twonky 4.x.x and 5.x.x but I don't now have them available so I am unable to check.

If any more info required, please ask.

Cheers,

Les.

We don't post builds for every different NAS. It's always best to wait until the NAS manufacturer issues an update, but if you can't wait, you might want to talk to other Thecus users. Someone can probably tell you which build to use.

I am trying to use the Twonky Media Server (latest version 6.0.3.2) to stream files from my Max OS X 10.6 to a Philips 7605 TV and I do not get the media server to play my videos (unrecogniseable file format). This seems to be a known issue with the 6.x version.

Does anyone have a solution to this - I see that previous posts recommend using a 5.x version of the Twonky Server?

My Philips TV can only play XVid/DivX Videos in an AVI container. Are you sure you are trying to play formats that your TV can handle?

So the questions still remain-
- what type of video/audio codecs are in the avi files? Avi is just a container format in which there can be many different video/audio codecs. If your TV does not understand the codecs then you can't play them.
- does your TV even understand mov files? If not then it can't play them.

If your TV supports playback from USB your best test is to put the movie on a USB device and connect it to the TV. If it can't play it that way then you won't get it playing through any media server without transcoding.

Hi Rick,

Yes. Browsing the server containers works fine for the genre search. The problem is in the exposure of the native Roku UI which used to work in older Twonky versions (v4 and v5 if I recall). I'd like v6 to work as well. The problem that I have is that "Browse Server Containers" is not very family friendly, and the left-right navigation does not step through the alphabet in the same way as in the Roku UI.

Of course, this does not address the other issue that I mentioned of all .m4a files being treated as Apple Lossless even if they are not.

Thanks,

Les.

Artist Index is great - I could not live without it on my non-Roku clients, but the Roku doesn't need it - since the left-right navigation is by initial letter while up-down is per item. And since it works identically for all modes (album, artist, song. etc) that helps with the non-techies in the household. And it is for them that I wish for the Genre search in Roku mode to behave correctly (as it does with other UPnP servers).

Hi All,

I installed this version on my DNS-323 and it crashed the NAS, it was an eas installation but then on reboot I see orange lamps blinking and the temprature was high and was impossible to log in to the NAS from my windows laptop.
I heard it is a configuration issue, any hints

Hi

That is to be expected as the default way Twonky works means it builds its database, logs and cache files in the Linux /var directory (on the D-Link, this is simply not large enough to contain them and it prevents the NAS from booting; that's what the pink lights are all about). The best way to sort it it to move the cache and database to the main drive, and I have written instructions (and created an installation script) to do just that; see here (there's another link in that post which will take you to a page I've written with full information, screen-shot pictures and downloadable custom files to enable easy Twonky 6 installation on the D-Link). Don't be put off by the length of the instructions; it's actually very easy to do, but I had to type out everything in great detail to save me getting loads of PM questions! :)

As to fixing your current situation: even though the pink distress lights are flashing, you will still be able to access the NAS using Telnet, change directory to /HD_a2 and delete the starttwonky.sh file, then reboot the NAS and it will then start normally; Telnet in and then use the following three commands to sort it all out:

cd /mnt/HD_a2
rm starttwonky.sh
reboot

Your Windows PC should have a built in Telnet capability, but I vastly prefer to use PuTTY (Google it; it's a free download) and I have thus shown PuTTY based instructions and screen-shots on that page (Mac users have a built in Telnet facility, but I don't have a Mac and thus cannot describe them).

The reboot will clear the /var directory and the absence of the starttwonky.sh file will prevent Twonky starting and thus re-creating the files in /var. You can then follow the instructions available from the above link.

I have a legal Twonky Media Server license which I bought along with a LaCie MiniHD Connect media player.

Today, I have installed the latest Twonky Server 6.0.32 on my Synology DS211+ NAS (Kirkwood processor) and media server is no longer accessible from all my DLNA players.

Before that, I had version 6.0.32 and everything worked fine, with all shared folders being available on all media players in local network. As instalation procedure, I deleted all previos version instalation files (except library folders) then I copied the new version files in the main instalation folder, also doing [ chmod 700 twonkym* cgi-bin/* plugins/* ] setting and preserving the start daemon file S99twonky.sh.

Yet Twonky's config pages are all accessible and they seem to work just fine. I rebuilt the library, recreated the shared folders, I rebooted everything, but Twonky Server is no longer accessible (it can be seen on all players, but it's media folders are not visible and I get connection errors from players).

Can anyone help me with this issue?

***********
UPDATE:
I downgraded and now everything is fine and Twonky Server 6.0.31-RC6 (kirkwood processor version) is running on my Synology DS211+.

Thank you!

Hi there!

As a start, you may want to correct the version that worked well on your NAS. There may be a post in this thread that deals with problems with Kirkwood compilations of V6.0.32. I think I remember reading something...

Rick, I have been watching the behavior of my TwonkyServer. At every restart of Twonky the cache is reset to size 0 and all files are rescanned. I don't know whether the database is rebuilt too, but the procedure takes several minutes each time. Since the hiccups I described are still happening, I have to restart Twonky a couple of times a day. The delay in being able to continue is aggravating.

I will therefore begin keeping the logs. As soon as this happens again, I will upload them as you described.
