Update:

They are currently testing TwonkyServer 6.0.33 RC5. Assuming no new issues pop-up they are going to do a final release later this week or early next week. It will be posted in the Beta section when it's ready.

Dear Rick.

The subtitles stopped working on 6.0.32 and the WD MBWE (White Light) NAS-drive on my Samsung 2010-LEDtv.

I think it started after the latest firmware update. I stream movies via WLAN. The subs worked perfectly before.

Could you please check this with your engineers?

Thanks

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for reporting this. We knew there was an issue with Samsung Blu-rays, but were waiting to hear if this also occurs on Samsung TVs. Now we know if does so I've created a support ticket for this. To check status on this in the future, please ask me about MM-4861.

Any further news on the broken Kirkwood build? I have been unable to run the latest stable release, and stuck on an old RC. I'm concerned 6.0.33 had been canceled, and Kirkwood/Sheevaplug owners have been left without an upgrade path...

We had an engineer look into this and they could not reproduce this issue. Can you please provide us with more details how to reproduce this?

Hi there,
I just bought the license after some testing. Everything is working great except subtitles on my Samsung TV.

My Samsung TV is PS50C550 and I run twonky 6.0.32 on Linkstation LS-WVL.

Subtitles are showing fine if I play the files thru Samsung home theater (bluray) but not thru this TV (with the latest firmware).

I also tried 6.0.31-RC6 and subtitles didnt work either.

It would be great if this can be fixed.

PS after trying so many things, Twonky turns out to be the best!

Thanks for doing a great job guys.

Thanks for the positive comment. :)

Subtitles used to work, until Samsung issued a firmware update which 'broke' them. We have an engineer looking into this, but I don't know how difficult it will be to fix -- or even if it's possible to fix it.

Is it broken on all Samsung TVs? 2009, 2010, 2011?

They don't work with MKV on my B650 (2009) TV. Neither does skipping forwards or backwards in MKV files.

Thanks. We have this same TV, so that means reproducing this should not be a problem.

Can you please confirm that all of this used to work before you upgraded your Samsung firmware?

In my case I've never actively tried to get subtitles working so don't know. Where I do have .srt files I don't see subtitles appear.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for the fast response.

In my case, I dont really know if it worked before firmware upgrade since I upgraded the firmware last year.

My Sammy is Australian and the latest firmware is from Nov 2010.

My home theater that displays the subtitles fine also has the latest firmware released on April 2011 (subtitle starts working from 6.0.31-RC6 on this bluray home theater unfortunately it supports less file formats than the TV)

In my case the subtitles (.srt) worked perfectly before the firmware upgrade of the TV.... I was very happy with solution. Now it doesnt work at all...

My FF/RW/pause etc. still works fine...

We're hoping to post TS 6.0.33 on Twonky.com in the next two weeks.

That's good to know. That will make it easier to argue this must be fixed.

I watch a lot of videos over TwonkyServer, and sometimes hiccups have occurred in the last couple of versions. Unfortunately, it happens with this one, as well: after I have watched a few episodes of whatever series I am watching at the time, the video plays 30 minutes or so of an episode then begins at the beginning again. I have to restart the server to get things working correctly again, and when I do, the server begins to rebuild the database! This can't be right, right?

P.S. I am using TwonkyServer 6.0.32 to stream .AVI files to my Philips Blueray player BRD 7500/2
Oh, boy! This is solved. It wasn't a Twonky issue at all! I played around with another media server, because this behavior was driving me crazy. Surprise! It happened with the other media server. It must be a bug in the Blue-ray Player. Sorry!

Thanks Rick.

Can't see any foreign movies until this is fixed. Otherwise I have to use (sigh!) USB....

This might seem like an obvious question to ask, but they would like someone to confirm that subtitles still work with Samsung's own Media Server. Could someone please try that and let us know which TV model and firmware you're running?

Hi Rick.

Subtitles do work using USB and Samsungs own media player. Its only when using Twonky they do not work...

Good news/bad news. The good news is that we finally have someone looking into the subtitle problems described above. The bad news is they have been unable to reproduce this issue.

Here is how they are testing this:
1. Convert an AVI file with subtitles to an MKV file
2. Share the converted MKV file along with the subtitle on TS 6.0.32.
3. Now try to play the file on Samsung TV.

Subtitles are displayed fine.

If someone can provide addition steps how we could reproduce or a short test file that would help.
