Twonky Server
Hi Guys,
My first post so be gentle if i ask N00B questions.
I recently purchased an ICYBOX NAS5220 which came with Twonky Server 4.4. I set up both and started to transfer my files onto the NAS. i noticed that when i used my WDTV Live to view the video files on the Twonky Media Server that it only showed the avi files and not my mkv files. After some googling i found that the latest version of twonky server 6.0 recognises mkv's but the 4.4 that came with the NAS didnt. so i purchased a license and downloaded the newer version.
I uninstalled the old version and installed the new one. i noticed it only installed to my c:\program files, and not my NAS so i copied the folder over to the NAS (as per the instructions for installing the 4.4 version originally)
So i tried my WDTV Live again and still cant view the mkv files!
I have a converter to change from mkv to other formats but the problem is this takes forever to do and i have 600gb of mkv's! this would take days
Can some one tell me if ive done something wrong or confirm the correct process for installing Twonky Server 6.0 on my NAS so i can view my mkv files?
or atleast give a rough idea what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance

Re: Twonky Server on ICY BOX NAS5220
While I dont have the exact how to install it for your nas device
There are scattered "how to" throughout the forums
searching is a pain though in this forum
The one in which you downloaded was most likely for windows
your going to need to download one specifically for you nas
the link below has a list of nas downloads for a bunch of nas devices
which one you need, not sure
http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6.0.32/
but you may find this version more stable, as people have reported
http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6.0.31-RC6/
just an example, here is a thread of going through the motions
on a different nas
which basically involves, logging into the nas
via putty and doing a wget, and some other stuff to get it to install

Re: Twonky Server on ICY BOX NAS5220
I went looking through the forums, and havent yet figured out which one to use in the 6.x version
Previously in the 5.x version, there was a specific build for your nas
It "may" be possible to use one of the others, not sure which one
Hopefully someone who knows will ping in
or you can pm the moderator, and ask him which one
http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/5.1.6/
http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/5. ... -5.1.6.tgz
have you asked the question one the icybox forums yet?
maybe somone there knows, worth a shot

ive already posted and awaiting a reply. I dont think 5.1.6 supports mkv's does it?
I tried PM'ing a moderator but it wont allow me to compose a message but thats a different issue and im about to check the FAQ for that.

Re: Twonky Server on ICY BOX NAS5220
no worries
I did find this version of 6.0
http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6.0/
http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6.0/Twonky.tgz
still trying to find something in a readme or something
that might tell us why there is no Raidsonic version
or what version to use in its place

Re: Twonky Server on ICY BOX NAS5220
I think this might be it, just a total guess though
Based on the links from 6.0
Intradisk uses http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6. ... ia-6.0.tgz
Raidsonic uses http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6.0/Twonky.tgz
I would guess that this is the same for both, this is the one for intradisk
http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6. ... 31-RC6.tgz
I could be wrong though

Re: Twonky Server on ICY BOX NAS5220
Thanks for the investigation and sorry for my late reply.
ive tried to unzip the files and getting an error message:
! C:\Users\Adam\Downloads\twonkymedia-6.0.31-RC6.tgz: Cannot open \usr\sbin\twonkymediaserver (usr\local\httpd\mediaserver\twonkymediaserver --> \usr\sbin\twonkymediaserver)

! C:\Users\Adam\Downloads\twonkymedia-6.0.31-RC6.tgz: Symbolic link points to missing file
Should i be unzipping them to my NAS or desktop then copy them over?
Sorry for the silly questions

Re: Twonky Server on ICY BOX NAS5220
There not silly
I know that for the most part, from what I see
is that one has to log into the nas via putty or similiar telnet app
and from there they usually do a wget to to the zipped file
or they copy it over unzipped
and from there, there is sometimes a .sh file to install it
each nas device has its own way of doing things, or some extra step or setting
different from the other
which is why there isnt this all in one install doc
I highly recommend looking and or asking the icybox people how they recommend doing this
unless someone here knows what to tell you to do
we'll both be pushing big red buttons to see what happens

Re: Twonky Server on ICY BOX NAS5220
based on this link
http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8611
http://www.icybox.com.tw/page/service/driver.htm
http://www.icybox.com.tw/driver/twonkymedia.zip
aside from which one to download from twonky's site
there is a read me in that zip from icybox, that helps with some of what you need to know
http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8611
so for giggles, I downloaded this one, just to see what was in thereAgain it couldnt be easier, download the latest twonky version from the icybox webpage, place it the apps folder on the HDD and click the 'enable twonky server' check box in the config page.

Re: Twonky Server on ICY BOX NAS5220
So it turns out no one has posted on the ICY BOX forums since September 2010 since me recently so no luck there.
Im no closer in figuring out how to get Twonky 6 working on my NAS
i might have to bite the bullet and sell this NAS and buy a Twonky 6 compatible NAS
Any suggestions for a 2 bay home server NAS?
