As soon as I got twonky installed, it automatically shifted to "your trial time has run out" mode and I can't run a test of the system on my WHS V2 system.
Is this a known problem?

Try restarting your WHS device. Sometimes users get that message when the trial isn't really expired.
If the trial is expired, there is no way to reset it. You'll have to purchase the software and ask for a refund (within 30 days) if it doesn't meet your needs.
