How do you use this?

It is VERY difficult even understanding what product to install, where. So I guessed and installed Manager on my PC and Server Mobile on my Android. It looks like my Android is connected to my home network. But, not surprisingly, neither the phone nor the PC can see each other in Twonky. Of course it is not as simple as the videos make it out to be.

If I start up Manager on the PC, I can see my pics in Manage. But under Now Playing, I see nothing. I thought this would let me select what I want to see on the remote end. The advertising is not clear, but it seems like that is the point of the software. Or do I have to "Push" out what I want from the server to the client? If so, the software is useless. So, even without using the Android, I see nothing in the Now Playing frame.

So ---- how do you use this? Clearly it is not nearly as simple as the videos make it out to be.

Did I guess at the right software to install? I really wish I could find some simple software that "just works". I HATE all this tweaking and testing and trying this and that. I just don't have time in my life to debug and analyze software.

What I really want to do is to be able to listen to music on my home theater or phone (connected to my network) as I see fit from those sides. But it looks like Twonky only works as a server, much like a conventional radio station, and the listener has no control over what to listen to (or view in the case of pics). Is that correct? If so, it does not meet my needs.

Possibly I misunderstood what this can do. If so, I'll look for better, more suitable software - any recommendations?

You completely misunderstand how the technology works. In a DLNA eco-system you need a media server (i.e. Twonky server) to catalog and serve media files. You ALSO need a digital media player to browse and play the media files from the server. Digital media players can be hardware devices or software run on computers and/or smartphones. What you have installed at the moment is only the server side.

You can discover how the technology works by studying the information here http://www.dlna.org/digital_living/getting_started/. It does mostly just work if you have all the pieces in place. If you find this all too complicated then I know of nothing simpler.
