Thank you for the update!
Up and running on my LS Pro developer system - after 6 hours the cache is still stable at 5380 KB. So far so good. :)

Do I have to activate the thumbnail-feature for movies somehow? I entered the path to ffmpeg into ffmpeg.location, but so far no thumbnails have been created - at least I didn't notice any. How would I see them (e.g. flash interface)? How would I trace/debug that activity?

Won't have time for further testing until next week, but will leave it running to see if cache remains stable without any activity...

Cheers,
Georg

like 6.0.29/30/32 every file non mpeg2 (example divx, xvid) are not identified on philips net TV 2010/2011 (example 7605, 8605)

if you need some information contact mr. Kabir or Product Manager that talk with me many many times via mail, forum, etc

the problem still exist

i still using 5.1.6, last good version of twonky server

at this point i think it is better to switch to another dlna server :(

As workaround you could set the device type to "Philips Streamium AV" in Twonky, this works w/ my 9705.

I purchased Twonky in order to use it with my Philips TV and indeed I'm also somehow disappointed regarding the progress of fixing this issue.

what is the progress of the remote access via internet?

in 6.0.32 the simple html interface worked with a noip/dyndns, but it's not very comfortable. The java browser didn't work via internet, only in intranet.

Sorry to hear that you're still having problems with this. We fixed some issues with Philips TVs with TS 6.0.34. Apparently we didn't fix everything. Based on your comments I've created a new bug report for this. To check status on this in the future, please ask me about MM-5069.

Apparently this feature won't appear until TwonkyServer 7.0 is released. If it was listed in the TS 6.0.34 release notes, it was an error. TS 7.0 is currently scheduled for Sept.

I spent some time looking at this just now. It looks to me like there is a problem with the way that ffmpeg is being called from within the ffmpeg-video-thumb.desc file. I noticed in the logs that twonky server kept complaining about the value being passed to -itsoffset (i.e. -"30") not being recognised. It looks like ffmpeg does not like the double-quotes being used in the value passed to -itsoffset. I changed the file as follows (replaced $videothumbtime with 30) and it seems that now it is generating thumbnails ok (although I have yet to verify that they appear on my TV and other DLNA devices).

-- BEGIN FILE "ffmpeg-video-thumb.desc" --
# generate video thumbs
#(c) 2010 by PacketVideo
# egarcia74: Replaced $videothumbtime with 30.
exec: ffmpeg -itsoffset -30 -i $infile -vcodec mjpeg -vframes 1 -an -f rawvideo -s $targetgeometry $outfile
# capabilities
from=video/*
to=image/jpeg
videothumb
synchronous
-- END FILE --

Thanks for the trick, I just altered the script file accordingly. Do you already know what happens if thumbnails are already present? For some cases I used ffmpeg with adjusted time offsets to create thumbnails which show the title or another "representative" image within the movie file. Would be a pity if twonky used other images which might be meaningless and a mess, if twonky would even overwrite those thumbs. ... But that's what my test system is for. :D

However during that manual optimization of the thumbnails I had the impression that I needed to restart the server that it would recognize *changed* thumbnails.

Hi Georg,

It seems to respect existing thumbnails.
And yes, I had to restart TwonkyServer for the changes to take effect.

Is anyone else out there experiencing an "Audio Coded Failed" error message with their Samsung LED TV's out there? It seems to appeared since this release. In saying that it is hard to say whether it was actually the latest TwonkyServer release or the Samsung TV since my TV decided to upgrade its firmware this week!

On a side note, is the BBCode turned off for this thread??

Using the workaround of egarcia74 I'm now getting thumbnails (be patient with a poor linkstation pro)!

Now that brings us to the next task. For movies (cinema, TV) the offset time should be larger than 30 seconds to bypass "columbia pics" etc. otherwise the thumbnail wouldn't make sense. However a lot of the clips recorded with the digital camera are shorter than that time. In this case the ffmpeg-video-thumb.desc will return an empty jpg (size 0) and the standard movie image is presented. In these cases it would make sense to use a frame from the middle of the clip.
As suggested by egarcia I'm using a fixed time in ffmpeg-video... maybe twonkyserver would normally do something similar by using dynamic offset times? (Give me your finger and I'll ask for your hand. ;) )

Anyway with an offset time around 10-15s it's a great feature for all these little clips that have no proper name. And I can choose the movies from the filename, anyway. So thank you for the feature and the workaround!

Bye,
Georg

The file size I'm sure is not the issue, asvi have many mp4 >2GB for which the embeded album art shows fine.

Make sure your album art is jpg, and it is progressive as oppose to interlaced.

If you dont know how to save the jpg as progressive, try adding a different image using a tool such as mp3tag

That would be nice, however, from what I can see, it takes longer the generate the thumbnail at 120 seconds into the movie, than 30 seconds into the movie. So a dynamic offset for movies would result in a high offset in seconds. It would thus take a lot of time to generate the thumbnail. And since I have a non-so-powerful sheevaplug, this is not something I want.

One other question though, after enabling this, I tried browsing the tree on my TV, and twonky started to generate thumbnails for all movies. During this time, twonky was very busy and my TV could load the tree. Now, when I add a new video, when will the thumbnail be generated? When adding to the library, or when browsing that file for the first time. If the later is true, I'm sure I will be annoyed by the delays before all files show up.

@505

It seems you can add your own thumbnails by adding a .jpg that has the same name as your movie. Works for me.

Swapping out the poster dosnt make a difference

Got a new renderer for my network. It's the Marantz NA 7004 wich works with twonky server and twonky manager without any problems. Here is the config in clients.db that works for me

Code: Select all

NA:Marantz NA 7004
DD:MARANTZ NETWORK AUDIO PLAYER
D2:NA7004
MT:wav audio/wav
XM:IGNORESORT
DB:FIX

I cant make it run on it, though I believe that Twonky is the server that comes embeded on the stock Linksys rom.

Confirmed that this is now fixed. A big thank you to the team for this. I am now able to stream AAC and Apple Lossless to my Roku clients. Here I have AAC for audio books (think about the space savings with 100 ripped CDs of Harry Potter...) and I use Apple Lossless for regular music so this fix is a big help.

Roku clients are nearly working perfectly. Now all I (and any other Roku users) need is for the Genre search in the Roku Native Browse Mode to be fixed as discussed here in relation to 6.0.32....

Change in plans. Contrary to my previous comment, we have decided not to fix the issue with the Media Browser link overlapping in IE 9.

Reasons: The person who would fix this is hard at work on another project and this issue does not occur with TwonkyServer 7.0. There are two good workarounds to this problem for existing TwonkyServer 6.0 users:

1. Setting the browser window full-screen seems to address this on most displays.
2. Clicking on the Compatibility View button in the IE toolbar fixes this. That button looks like a broken web page.

I have Philips 40PFL7605M/08 and MyBookLive
Philips with firmware 140.37.0.
On MyBookLive i have firmware 2.00.35 and Twonky Media Server 5.1.9.

I show all my photos on the TV screen as thumbnails. Very small picture!

I tested Twonky Media Server 6.0.34 and it fix the bug on the photo size. with this new release i show picture on tv in full screen.

But with release 6.0.34 i can't see all my video avi or divx!
With the old version i don't have problems!

is very strange this downgrade! :-(

Hi Rick, same of MM-5069 !!!
Remember the mail between me and mr. Kabir ?

With Twonky 6 all Philips TV don't play avi/divx files, with Twonky 5 video files are played without error.

I started my test of Twonky 6 since 6.0 beta, exchange many many many mail with your technichan and every time you release new version i listen " try, now the problem fixed", but nothing !

Philips is one of the most diffuse brand in the world, i don't understand how is it possible Twonky 6 don't work after 34 release !

I hope you put the bug at the highest level so we can see a working version soon

thank's

Hi folks,

this is my 1st post, so be gentle to me, please :-)

I am using Twonkyserver on a Windows PC for quite a while now. Yesterday I got a WD Mybook Live witt a pre-installed Twonkyserver 5.1.9 on it. I am having some minor issues with that and hopefully you can help me out. At first I updated the server to 6.0.34 (PPC version), same as I am using on Win7. So far so good.

1) The Mybook-Twonky doesn't recognize my Samsung devices properly. They are recognized as "general media player", so mkv-playback won't work. I can change that manually to "Samsung TV" and everything is fine, so it's no big deal. Just to mentioned it, I saw some people having problems with that at the Samsung and WD forums.

2) I don't have a transcoding option no more. No big deal either, I don't use it anyway. But is this normal? ffmpeg is installed on the Mybook, so it should work theoretically.

3) I don't get any thumbnails no more for any video file, regardless of the file format (xvid, avi mkv, mpeg). I edited the ffmpeg.location file and changed it to "/usr/bin". I also edited the ffmpeg-video-thumb.desc file as egarcia74 suggested:

-- BEGIN FILE "ffmpeg-video-thumb.desc" --
# generate video thumbs
#(c) 2010 by PacketVideo
# egarcia74: Replaced $videothumbtime with 30.
exec: ffmpeg -itsoffset -30 -i $infile -vcodec mjpeg -vframes 1 -an -f rawvideo -s $targetgeometry $outfile
# capabilities
from=video/*
to=image/jpeg
videothumb
synchronous
-- END FILE --

I'm for sure no Linux guru, so am I missing something here?

That's it, thanks for your attention, any help any help would be appreciated.

Best regards
Fussel

I started a thread yesterday: http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9953

Can you post there as to how you installed ffmpeg and its codecs? Hopefully we can help each other to solve this.
You also said you had thumbnails before? Was that on the original 5.1.9 version?

As for the transcoding menu, it doesn't show on mine either.. Its why im leaning towards a bad install of ffmpeg or codecs..

Thanks, hope to hear from you in the thread above..

This might be a bug. I'll report this. Thanks for mentioning it.
2) I don't have a transcoding option no more. No big deal either, I don't use it anyway. But is this normal? ffmpeg is installed on the Mybook, so it should work theoretically.
Most NAS devices don't have the horsepower required to transcode video. I'd be really surprised if you can get this to work well. A better option is to use a Mac or PC with TwonkyServer 7.0 which includes preinstalled and preconfigured trancoding for many popular file formats.
Manual video thumbnails support was added in TwonkyServer 6.0. Automatic thumbnail generation was adding in TS 6.0.32 when FFmpeg is present. I realize I don't have a solution for you. I'm sharing all of the info I have on this.

Notes on manual thumbnails

You can now add thumbnails to any of your videos, regardless of format, by simply adding a JPEG image with the same name as the video. For example, if your video is titled movie.mpg, then your video thumbnail should be titled movie.jpg. The JPEG image must be placed in the same folder as the corresponding video file. Although a good size for video thumbnail images is 300 x 300 pixels, our software will resize the images for you if larger images are used. While you can use screen capture software to obtain thumbnails, the easiest way to get them is to do a Web search for images with the same name as the movie or video.

Thanks for your feedback!

The problem we have with automatic thumbnails seems to be related to write permissions. chessdragon136 posted a log excerpt, maybe you could forward this to a developer?

We tested this command line and it is working fine on our side. Here is the response that I received from the engineer that thinks this could be a problem caused by file permission settings.

The user might check the permission of /usr/bin/ffmpeg as well as the permissions of the input/output files/directories:

/shares/Public/Shared Videos/TV/test.avi
/CacheVolume/twonkymedia/images/486d02ea0f40fb91ed16e5cec50a730b/1920x1080
/CacheVolume/twonkymedia/images/486d02ea0f40fb91ed16e5cec50a730b/1920x1080/test.avi.jpg

An experienced user may also try that command in a shell to see what ffmpeg is reporting:

/usr/bin/ffmpeg -itsoffset -30 -i "/shares/Public/Shared Videos/TV/test.avi" -vcodec mjpeg -vframes 1 -an -f rawvideo -s "1920x1080" "/CacheVolume/twonkymedia/images/486d02ea0f40fb91ed16e5cec50a730b/1920x1080/test.avi.jpg"

This is exactly the command the server invokes.

Thank you for the response.. I have solved that issue as transcoding doesn't work if it is running as a daemon...Using the twonkymedia.sh script and dtach workes fine.

I now only have one small problem - I have it transcoding and saving images. Unfortunately, the images are saved in a folder (1920x1024). These do NOT show up in the flash player. If i change the folder to 160x160, they show up fine.. It doesn't seem to matter what resolution the actual images are at, but they HAVE to be in a folder named 160x160 to be seen in flash and on my samsung tv.

Twonky 6.0.34

Thank you for your persistence

My Roku soundbridge still sees some of my AAC files as Apple Lossless and, as a result, they cannot be played. It seems that this is function of the bit rate of my files. Files with bitrates smaller than 310 kbps stream fine while those with nitrates above 310 kbps (but less than 320kbps) do not.

Anybody else has this issue ?

Confirmed that this is now fixed. [b][i] A big thank you to the team for this.[/i][/b] I am now able to stream AAC and Apple Lossless to my Roku clients.

Sorry to hear that you're still having problems with this. We fixed some issues with Philips TVs with TS 6.0.34. Apparently we didn't fix everything. Based on your comments I've created a new bug report for this. To check status on this in the future, please ask me about MM-5069.
