I have a Comcast business account with a fixed IP. Comcast provides a SMC8014 gateway (which has no logging capability). It creates a 10.1.10.0 private network with DHCP on the LAN side and I use port forwarding. I have a Windows 7 machine (10.1.10.20) and a cisco e4200 wireless router in bridge mode (10.1.10.30) connected to the gateway. I also connect my android phone to the e4200 wireless router. The Widows 7 box had Twonky server as well as Windows media server. my android phone has Twonky mobile installed.

Everything works fine except that I cannot see the Twonky player Windows 7 machine as a player on the android phone. On the android I can see the library for Twonky server on the windows 7 box and the library for Windows media player. I can also see the player Windows media and I can play songs from the Android phone on the Windows player. However, I cannot see the Twonky player on the Windows 7 box from the Android ... unless .... I connect a wireless card to the Windows 7 box so it has 2 IP's (10.1.10.20 and 10.1.10.60). Then I can see the Twonky player on the Windows 7 box from the android phone.

I turned off the Windows firwall and I stll get the same result. the SMC8014 gateway has no logging and the e4200 does not have logging in bridge mode.

I also noticed when I open the Windows media player and choose "stream" and "more streaming options" the android phone is not on the list when the drop-down says "local network". However, when I change the drop-down to "all networks" the android phone is on the list.

Sorry I am totally confused by your explantion. But some questions-
1) Why can't you use the WiFi feature of the SMC8014. If it is any one of these then they have WiFi-

2) Why do you believe you need to do port forwarding from the SMC8014. Where are you forwarding the ports too?
3) Why do you think you need the Cisco e4200 in the mix. Why can't your Android connect to the SMC8014?
4) What do you mean by the 'Twonky player on the Windows 7'? There is no player with Twonky server, are you perhaps referring to Twonky Manager?

The SMC gateway Comcast gives does not have wireless capability so that answeres 1 and 3. As for port forwarding that is one way to set things up because I have a mail server and DNS server that need to be accessed from the Internet. However, the advice seems to be to get as many functions off the SMC gateway as possible because it will cause performance proiblems. The advice is to either set up the e4200 in the DMZ of the SMC gateway or give the e4200 the exrternal Internet address. Either one of these configs should solve the problem because everything will be behind the e4200. #4: yes I meant the Twonky manager.

It seems odd that TwonkyMobile (on Android) can see the Windows player but not the Twonky player unless I do that second connection through the wireless modem. It looks like different protocols or ports are being used but I am not really sure what is going on.

It seems to work by using DHCP in the SMC and I turned off DHCP in the e4200.

At one point when i clicked on the Twonky player in the network under "my computer" I was given an option to share with the local network or share with all networks. I can't seem to get back to that configuartion page (Windows 7) so i am not sure if that is what fixed it.

Running 2 DHCP servers on the same local network is a definite NO NO. There can only be one DHCP server. Win7 was probably getting very confused.

yes, but I wanted to shut off the DHCP on the SMC and set everthing fixed. Then run DHCP on the e4200 only for connected decvices but I could never get that to work fully. It seems once e4200 is in DHCP all those connected devices are seen as being on a different network even though it is all the same subnet ... but I am not really sure what is going on.

Using the e4200 DHCP every time I changed something I would lose connetivity somewhere. Either Internet, internal connection to the mail server from the Android, or I could not see some of the media players on the Android.
