I have an Iomega HDD cloud edition, which uses Twonky server 6.0.34. It works with AVI files but it doesn't work with MKV files.
The strange thing is that the same MKV file works perfect, when I put it on an ext HDD connected through USB in the Samsung TV (D6500).
I thought that the Samsung TV does the decoding, and not the Twonky media server?
Does anyone have a suggestion??

Yes your Samsung TV does the video decoding.
BUT, Samsung TV's have two different media players with different capabilities. One plays media from local storage and supports a wide range of formats. The other plays media from DLNA sources and is very restricted in what it can play.
Look in your TV's manual to see if it can play MKV files from a DLNA source.

Yes samsung TV's can play MKV's
HOWEVER, you need to tell twonky that it is a Samsung TV
Go to your twonky server - http://NAS:9000
Click the spanner
Click Media Recievers
In the list, whichever MAC/IP matches your Samsung TV, in the dropdown box (probably says generic) select Samsung Tv
Job done

Thank you chess dragon.
Your solution worked perfectly, the mkv files are now playable.
The only thing is that some files are not able to scroll forward in time.
Again many thanks

Out of curiosity, which files are they? Are they avi's, mkvs?
Everything I have thrown at it has worked and has let me skip forwards using the left, right arrows.. FF and FW are not supported by samsung over DLNA.. Does the time skip work (in the menu)?
