can't watch videos

Post by teppy » Sat May 23, 2009 3:51 pm

i have been able to listen to my itunes music from my mac since getting twonky. i just tried to watch a music video. the denon reciever sees the video, but it says on the side of it (not play). it also says this nest to photos too. i checked in my itunes preferences to make sure that sharing was enabled for videos, and it is. i dont know what to check next. any ideas? anyone?

I don't know which Denon AVR you're using, but my understanding is that Denon AVRs do not support video or photo streaming playback via their Ethernet connection. The Denon Ethernet music server ("Denon Network Audio") is compatible with audio files only. You'd need something else besides a Mac-to-Denon Ethernet connection for streaming video files (Slingbox, Xbox 360, PS3, or somethin'). The "Music/Video (not play)/Photos (not play)" display on the Denon is showing you what you've shared on the network, but the "(not play)" part is indicating incompatible formats.

I have an AVR-4310ci and also cannot play videos via DLNA/Twonky. The video folder displays "(not plays)" and sure enough, all attempts to play those files only show a crude still image. I am able to play them all (except for mp4s) from 4 other PCs on my LAN.

The clients.db file says that the denon 3808 is music-only (AV:M):
ID:080
NA:DENON AVR-3808
AV:M
DD:AVR-3808
DB:FIX
bmorgan - what do you have your 4310 set to on the Media receivers config page as there isn't an entry in the clients.db specifically for the 4310?

In the clients.db file, the only section mentioning Denon at all is this:

>>
NA:DENON
DD:DENON
XM:CANNOTREGISTERDEVICE
DB:FIX

That doesn't look too promising

Just found this: DMRs which can be controlled externally by TwonkyMedia manager
Denon AVR-4308 (audio-only)
Denon AVR-5308 (audio-only)
Here: http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=5960 dated 1/4/09

Is that subject to change or is it a limitation of the receiver?

Here's the certificate from DLNA.org:

http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG82325221.pdf

Audio only, DLNA 1.0 compliant.

Thanks, very helpful. I looked up my Blu-ray player (LG BD390) on that site and it shows 1.5 compliance and will play most videos, just not mp4s. Who is most likely the culprit there?
