Twonky on Linksys E4200: FLAC streaming
Assuming that they fix the E4200 media server when they release the new fw later this month, will that allow streaming of FLAC files to my Android devices? The question is then, does Twonky allow streaming of .flac files without transcoding? I am asking because I don't really see the E4200 capable of doing transcoding on the fly...

TwonkyServer normally streams FLAC files without problems. Let's hope the firmware update fixes this for the E4200.

Does that mean without transcoding as well?

That is correct. Large numbers of Twonky users stream FLAC files to their devices every day.

Let me make myself clear, when I ask about streaming to an Android device, I actually mean streaming to some Android device anywhere on the Internet, not just on the same LAN as the Twonky server. Is Twonky capable of streaming (FLACs, among others) on the Internet?

Thanks for clarifying. Is your TwonkyServer running on your mobile device, E4200 router or computer?

Re: Twonky on Linksys E4200: FLAC streaming
Theoretically, it should be running on my E4200, though that, as you probably know, is broken in the latest firmware (courtesy of Linksys/Cisco). There's talk of a newer firmware sometime this month, that's supposed to fix Twonky.TMM_Product_Manager wrote:Thanks for clarifying. Re: Twonky on Linksys E4200: FLAC streaming
Alright, the new firmware has been released by Linksys/Cisco (1.0.03), Twonky has been fixed, though so far I have not been able to stream FLACs. Is this because Gingerbread doesn't support FLACs? MP3s work fine.
Also, I have not figured out how to stream onto the Internet, not just within my (WiFi) LAN. Or is it that Twonky doesn't do that? How would I point the Twonky client to a certain IP address outside the LAN?

Re: Twonky on Linksys E4200: FLAC streaming
First off, I'm glad the new firmware helps.
I know that the full version of TwonkyServer has no problems streaming FLAC files. Can you try to stream a FLAC file to a device other than your phone that you are sure supports FLAC?
TwonkyServer can stream onto the Internet if you set it up properly. There are some posts about 'Remote access' on this forum. Here is one: http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... 646#p32846

Well, it turns out that I spoke too soon. Still broken, though in more subtle ways.TMM_Product_Manager wrote:First off, I'm glad the new firmware helps.
Thanks, that is, really, very useful. I will try it on my Revue--whenever it gets upgraded to Honeycomb, that is. In the meantime should I conclude that this is a feature that you are considering for future Twonky updates (I mean, with no tweaking required on the user's side)?TwonkyServer can stream onto the Internet if you set it up properly. Re: Twonky on Linksys E4200: FLAC streaming
As you guessed, we are working on an easier way for remote access.
Let me know how FLAC streaming is still broken. Did you try it with another player?

Actually yes, I did try it in my browser streaming from the E4200. Not working. MP3s work fine though.Let me know how FLAC streaming is still broken. Did you try it with another player?

Re: Twonky on Linksys E4200: FLAC streaming
The browser may not be the best way to try it. Ideally you'd use something like a Sonos, WD TV or Philips Streamium. Those devices all work well with FLAC.
