Twonky crashing browsers

Post by ashamel » Sat Sep 24, 2011 12:13 am

Hiya.

I am testing out twonky manager and twonky beans, on a PC with Windows XP and ZoneAlarm . I have successfully got TM to share stuff. However, as soon as I run either Firefox or IE with TB (I installed both versions, 1.6) the browser crashes. I have to uninstall.

The first time it happened on FF, I got a ZoneAlarm message saying the browser was unstable, so I thought ZA was causing the problem. But if I run the browser with ZA off, it still crashes.

Any thoughts as to what might be happening?

(I saw the note in the Best Practices guide about avoiding running a firewall unless it's configured properly. I am hoping to find a guide to configure it properly, but that might be a separate question.)

We haven't seen this problem before, but I'll forward this on so our testers can watch for this. Sometimes when software is turned off, it still has an effect on things. If you want to make sure it's not Zone Alarm-related, you might want to temporarily uninstall it to make sure.

Thanks for the note. If it helps, this is what it says in the Event Viewer:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 8.0.6001.18702, faulting module twonkyieplugin.dll, version 1.6.6.0, fault address 0x000402df.

What version of Firefox are you running? We don't have support for 7.0 yet.

At the time I tested, I was running FF 6, at the most up-to-date patch. Since then it automatically upgraded to 7. I'll keep an eye out for a new Twonky version to see if it fixes the problem.

7.0 is definitely not supported yet, although we hope to do so in the next few weeks.
