Unable to Access Network Hard Drives

I've been running Twonky Server 4.4.1 on my Synology NAS for many years, but that box is getting old and I've decided to replace it with a home server running VMWare ESCi5.5 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 file server setup and functioning which contains my media collection. Permissions are set so that everybody has read access to this (and as a test I've enables full access to everybody as well, which did not affect my problem).

I have a separate Windows Server 2008 R2 setup to run Twonky Server 8.0.2. This was installed as a service, during the installation.

I have mapped the network drive to the local machine as the E: drive, and this is fully functional.

In the web interface (accessed from my laptop), http://192.168.123.178:9000/webconfig#sharing, if I input the path to the network drive (\\192.168.123.242\Music) I get nothing discovered, if I use the DNS name (\\Mayfield-NA2\Music) I also get nothing. If I click on the browse button, I get presented only with A: and C:, no E:. If I just type in E:, again I get nothing.

Can anybody help, I'm really struggling to get this to work, and don't want to purchase a new licence if this is not going to do what I want.

(I tried Plex Server and this did work, however I was not too impressed that it would not allow me to define my own menu structure for DLNA clients).

It looks like you have installed Twonky as a system service. This way it cannot access the mapped drive because it's only available to the user who created it. This means you have to reinstall Twonky as User service.

Start the installer and select "Perform clean installation" and later "Custom Install". Now you can uncheck "Install Twonky Server as a system service..."

Thanks, indeed I did install it as a system service (thinking it would automatically start when the machine powered up). I shall try again as a user service.

However, even when I tried with a direct address of the drive, rather than using a user mapped drive (\\192.168.123.251\Music) it did not work either!

Reinstalling, not as a system service has done the trick - thanks

Same issue I am facing, but not solved it yet. I have installed again as custom install disabling system service.

My ITunes library file is on my Win10 computer, but the actual music files for itunes are on a network storage. I have included the following in the .ini file:

# full path to the iTunes library .xml file, empty to disable iTunes import
ituneslib=C:\Users\user\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml

This helps to get me the playlist from itunes (great!), but all the playlists are actually empty. This makes somewhat sense as I assume Twonky cannot access the actual network drive, where the music files are. How can I point Twonky to the network drive?

Any hope?
