Unable to shutdown MBP as Twonkymediaserver won't close

Every time I want to shut down my Macbook, I have to force quit Twonkymediaserver first, is there a work round for this or a fix in the pipeline? Or am the only one suffering from this annoying problem?

Any assistance would be helpful, thanks.

Oh using latest version of Twonky 6.0.37 on Lion.

Any way to automatically force unresponsive apps down on exit with a Mac?

Sorry my Mac knowledge is low, have only owned my MBP for a few weeks :).

Alt+right click over app-icon offer Force Quit as an option...
But TwonkeyServer shouldn't hang up the system... :(

I already force quit the app before shutting down, I was asking if there's an automatic way to terminate all unresponsive apps while shutting down, like their is in Windows?

Since I've yet to receive a response, I'm asking again. I post the response next week. There is a new server updated coming in the next few weeks, but I'm not sure if this was addessed.

You are not alone with this problem! I had the same problem here with Twonky version 6.0.37 and also the latest 6.0.38.

More then two months ago i reported this issue with Twonky support and after a month i get the reply that they don't experience any problems so that the problem lies with the MacBookPro. So i replied back that everything works fine except Twonky software and that it's stupid to think the problem is Mac related! I've also contacted Apple and they simply say Twonky is not supported so for me it's obvious that the problem is the new Twonky software. Twonky support is not helpfull so i advice all Mac users not to use Twonky software!

I rolled back to Donky 6.0.., oh i'm sorry my Mac has issues, Twonky 6.0.34 which works fine. I'm now looking at other options because of the bad support and not willing to refund. Apple doesn't support Twonky so in my opinion Twonky let us Mac users down at this moment. The new version has the same issues! The Twonky app won't startup normally and only a force quiet will shut down the program. When you leave the Twonky app on and won't to shut down your MacBook(Pro) the Mac will ask you after two minutes to shutdown Twonky first! Very, very annoying! And Twonky support will advice you to throw away MacBook(Pro) and all problems are gone

Same here.

Mac Mini Server, Shutdown won't work.

This is somewhat annoying since I actually wanted to shut down the server for some time during night.

Cheers,

OK.

Twonky 7 will close.

Twonky 6.x will not be closed and therefore keep the mac from shutting down.

Bummer.

@McTrinsic

Twonky 7 will close.
???

Highest version is 6.034 and still not shut down without a force quit on my MacBook!
The same version on my MacPro G5 works perfect! Same operating system (10.6.8 ) as the MB.

Same here. I installed 6.0.38 and now I have problems shutting down MBP. I have to force quit TwonkyMediaServer every time.

I'm running Lion 10.7.2.

So it's been ages since the first bug was reported and no solution has been presented, the latest version 6.0.38 still has the issue. I bet we'll be asked to pay again for version 7 when it's fully released in it's final form.

Not impressed, clearly Twonky doesn't play nicely with Lion and I'm not going to be replacing Lion...

1. We are not charging for TwonkyServer 7.0. You can download it from our website today for free.
2. I'll make sure everyone knows this still hasn't been fixed. Sorry about this.

Hi all,

just wanted to suggest to send your Mac into Hibernation instead of switching it off.

Works and uses almost no more energy than having it swithced off.

While we are ranting about the problems, what about a possible solution.

Anyone able to write an (apple-) script that actually *kills* the twonky server just a few minutes before intended shutdown?

Yours,
McTrinsic

Status update:

We cannot reproduce this issue. Shutdown goes correctly in both idle and streaming states. If someone can provide us with exact steps which help us to reproduce this we will reopen this ticket.

MBP Early 2011 - After Market Memory upgrade to 8GB.
LION 10.7.2

Install Twonky from website (6.0.38) and then configure.
When trying to shutdown MBP, error message displayed "You haven't been logged out because the application TwonkyMediaServer failed to quit, etc."

The only way to shutdown is to force quit Twonky.

Is there actually anyone who is using Twonky that can shutdown (not sleep) their Mac without forcing it to quit???

Im having the same problem on i5 mac mini running latest version of lion.
the twonky 'app' starts @ login but instantly becomes none responsive but the server itself is live, if i force quit that 'app' the server still stays live and i can shut down, no problems.
if however i do not force quit the app lion will not shutdown due to twonkymedia server being none responsive.
im also having the exact same problem on an intel core duo mac mini running latest version of snow leopard so i wouldnt say its lion related...
the app needs to run and self quit as the server stays live anyways unless the stop server html extension is run

guys, when the app looks unresponsive try to go to activity monitor and shut down twonky webdav process; after that it should work fine...i had a similar problem and i found a "solution" writing a simple app that after twonky starts it shuts down twonkywebdav...

Please share the app/script or whatever you have written that solves the issue :).

Hi all,

sorry for the late reply - been on vacation.

Same behaviour here.

Latest Mac Mini Server 8GB, Lion 10.7.2.

I'd appreciate anyways if I could run Twonky server without the need to actually log on.

Same issue here... just installed 6.0.38 on an iMac, and the server prevents log out or shutdown.

Very annoying...

So.... more poking around.

One of the server threads appears to be blocked, waiting for something to happen (not sure what yet).

It is stuck executing this code:

+0x0 mov rax, dword 33554439
+0x5 mov r10, rcx
+0x8 syscall
+0xa jae __wait4+0x11
+0xc jmp cerror
+0x11 ret
+0x12 nop
+0x13 nop

This makes sense; Normally when I log in to my account, Safari launches and I am presented with a web page that contains server status; With this build the TwonkyMediaServer icon launches and bounces for a while, but the config page is never displayed. I bet that it is that thread that is hung up.....

As I previously said the problem is related to twonkywebdav server; try this: go in /Applications/TwonkyMediaServer then right-click, show package content, navigate into Contents/MacOs, open twonkymedia.sh and delete the line sayng sleep 1 and the next one, the one that ends wid twonkywebdav; then if you restart twonky server you'll see that everything's working fine. if you try to launch twonkywebdav from the terminal it hangs and that process is the one that blocks twonky. if you don't need the webdav server cos you use twonky only as a dlna server this can be useful. I already wrote to the support and i hope they fix it cos twonky would be so good without this issue

Tried the above but just ended up making Twonky not visible as a media server on my PS3. Did allow my MBP to shutdown though lol.

Think Twonky might just get binned...
