WAV files in iTunes

Post by DTdNav » Sun Nov 27, 2011 10:10 pm

Greetings,

Twonky is not listing the lossless WAV files I have in my iTunes.

I have an iMac with OSX Lion, Twonky Server ver 6.0.38, iTunes ver 10.5 for 64 bit. Either I misunderstand what is meant by WAV files as mentioned in the Best Practices paper, my files are not the same type of WAV file due to nomenclature ambiguity with iTunes, or I am not doing something right with the Twonky Server.

Please advise.

Thanks.

We support standard WAV files, but it sounds like you might be using something a little different. What is the file extension on your files? How were they created?

The file extensions are .wav. Some were created within iTunes from MPEG or AAC files, and others were created with Audacity 1.3.9 from audio cassette tapes and an analog to digital interface box.

Do some .WAV files work and others do not?
What happens when you try to play them?

I am able to play the .wav files in iTunes, but since Twonky won't even display them, I haven't been able to attempt to play them there. Is there a way to get to them through Twonky if they won't display in the HTML home section? My Denon also only sees what the Twonky HTML homepage sees.

It sounds like our file scanner isn't recognizing your WAV files as a supported file format. Would it be possible for you to e-mail me a single test file at tmm-beta@pv.com? If so, please let me know after you've send the file.

I've received two WAV files. Thanks!

Looking at them now. Will let you know what I find. :)

Here is what I'm seeing so far:

- When I open the files in Media Monkey which is a well-known media manager here is what I see:
Alannah Myles song only has metadata for Title, Artist, Year. No album art.
Jet song only has metadata for Title. No album art.

- When I open the files in iTunes on Mac no album art and little if any metadata is present.

- When I copy the song to a Mac running TwonkyServer 6.0.38 the file appears quickly and scan played and shared. No metadata.

- When I copy the song to my PC running TwonkyManager 3.0 and TwonkyServer 7.0 the file appears immediately, but no metadata is displayed

- When I copy the song to my PC running TwonkyManager 2.0 and TwonkyServer 6.0 the file appears immediately, but no metadata is displayed

If there was metadata their before either it is entered in an encrypted or proprietary method that most software can't read OR it's being entered directly into the database, so it's 'lost' whenever the file is moved.

We will check our Mac as well, but that will take longer since we need to uninstall and newer version and reinstall TS 6.x.
