Music Library Structure

I have music on my iMAC hard drive and access from my Yamaha RX-A3060 amp via Twonky Server installed on my iMAC.

I have spent time with my iTunes library by assigning new genres and artist names so that I have a simple library index which works well for me. As a result I have 21 genres and 211 artists. For compilation albums I generally assign ‘Various Artist’ as the artist. This last move unclogs my library from having many hundreds of artists with ‘one’ track (ie one track wonders).

When I use Twonky Server it brings back 99 genres plus many many hundreds of artists.

I assume that the server looks at each individual tracks meta data and as such has found 99 genres and many many hundreds of artists.

Is there a way I can simplify my database and end up with a neat library structure like my iTunes that Twonky Server can read?
