Twonky + DSM320 + Mac Success

I had to hack around a bit but I have things working fairly well now so I thought I'd share. I'm on a Mac G5 with OS X 10.4.9 and using TwonkyVision 4.4 Beta 4. Here's what I noted:

-I initially tried the EyeConnect software. It looked good but was very flakey and I couldn't get it working reliably. So I tried TwonkyVision.
-The install threw me when I couldn't find the application. Luckily I found a posting here which said I had to open my browser to http://127.0.0.1:9000/. That worked.
-I spent a long time trying to find a format to convert my videos to which wasn't jerky, which didn't skip, and had acceptable picture quality to me. Using Visual Hub (http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/) I found that the best format is MPEG using the TIVO profile. Good quality motion, no skips, no problems.
-A couple of issues still remain. The folder settings for TwonkyVision don't seem to work... it only sees one of the folders I have set. Also the content often doesn't refresh... I have to manually rebuild the database for things to show.
-Apart from the above issues though, it performs well. I can also use my computer while it streams with no ill effects... although it will stutter if another user logs in to a different profile. I generally try to minimize any other work the computer is doing while I watch stuff.

Hi

I'm wondering if you could give me a nudge in the right direction.
Could you point me towards some instructions for setup and/or use? I don't seem to be getting anywhere with it.
I'm fairly savvy so you can be blunt

I ran the MediaServer installer package.
I found some stuff called mediaserver etc but no apps to run.
When I tried your suggestion of http://127.0.0.1:9000/ or variations on this I got no results

G4 iBook OS 10.4.9
I can try it on my current XP HTPC but ultimately I'd like a Mac media server.

Well the first thing to check is if the install occurred. The 'Media Server' folder should be in Library/StartupItems (not your user Library) so it will start up with the computer. Within the 'Media Server' you should have a 'Resources' folder, a PList file and the Media Server Unix executable file... do you? I'm guessing not, in which case perhaps try a reinstall of the latest final version: 4.4.
