Transcoding m4v to mkv or vob

Post by crystalreef » Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:47 am

Hi,

I am running TWS 5.1.2 on Mac OS X 10.6.2. All my DVD's have been Handbraked to x264 .m4v files which I can play easily on all my Macs and even stream (not with TWS) directly to my iPhone with no problems.

I have a Samsung LE40B650 HDTV that I want to stream my videos too but I get the 'Not supported File Format' error. I have VLC 1.0.5 and ffmpegx installed and have edited my /Applications/TwonkyMediaServer.app/MediaServer/cgi-bin/ffmpeg.location and /Applications/TwonkyMediaServer.app/MediaServer/cgi-bin/vlc.location files as shown below:
/Applications/ffmpegX.app/Contents/Resources
/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC
I have also edited my /Applications/TwonkyMediaServer.app/MediaServer/resources/clients.db to have the entry
>>
NA:Samsung HDTV
DD:Samsung HDTV
DB:Fix
XM:DNLA15
XM:DATETIME
XM:FORCE_DURATION
XM:FORCE_4TH_FIELD
HP:chunked
MT:mkv video/MP4V-ES
MT:avi,divx video/x-divx
MT:mp4 video/MP4V-ES
MT:mpeg,mpeg2,vdr,spts,tp,ts,avi,divx,mkv video/mpeg
MT:m4a audio/mp4
AV:no-m3u

I have also checked all of the boxes:
Transcode videos to:
MPEG2
WMV
MPEG4
Flash

but still m4v files do not play.

How can I get transcoding (on the fly) to work? Either with VLC or ffmpeg.

Thanks

Yes, I have a very similar setup and have not been able to get transcoding to work for audio files encoded with either LAME, or Apple Lossless (m4a) and so I can not play most of my music library on my DLNA clients.

Yeh they haven't made it easy.

After lots of testing i'd like to transcode my handbraked m4v files to mkv as these will definitely stream to the TV.

If anyone knows how to get this going this would great.
