Localhost Problem TMS 6.0.28 OSX10.4.11: Server Won't Start.

Post by hoarek » Tue Mar 08, 2011 11:47 am

I am trying to install TMS 6.0.28 for the first time on my G5 PPC with 10.4.11 I seem to be coming up against a common problem: cannot start server, but unable to find a solution trawling through forum or Google. Concerned that this problem is proving either so simplistic, or or otherwise so complex that you boffins out there haven't posted the solution to it (Twonky Team?). Anyway, here goes:

Program downloaded from Twonky site, and installed as per wizzard. Automatically opened first time with Safari but failed with "Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost:9000/config/config.html?confpage=18” because Safari can’t connect to the server “localhost”.". Clicking on either of the [Firefox] desktop aliases return a similar fail page "can’t open the page “http://localhost:9000 because Firefox can’t connect to the server “localhost."

Restarted computer, browser opens up automatically but returns the same Firefox fail page.

So far, also tried:
Changing browser address from localhost to 127.0.0.1 in the address bar
Double-clicking TwonkyMediaServer app in the Applications folder
Switching firewall on/off (reset to ON)
En/disabling Web Sharing (reset to OFF)
Scanning ports through 9000 at 127.0.0.1 with Network Utility (but none open in this range)
Manually opened 9000 in Firewall. (reset to OFF)

All above with successive restart, but still same problem.

I have not tried previous versions, so my file system *should* be clean.

Driving me loopy! I'm not a computer programmer, so please keep your solutions simple please

Thanks
