So which NAS device for XBox 360?

Post by jbauer » Wed Sep 12, 2007 4:00 pm

Hi All,

I want to find a NAS device that can serve all media to my XBox 360.

Was about to order a Lacie Ethernet Disk mini, but checked some threads here to ensure that Twonky would work first.

It seems that it won't. I see that they have v4.3 of Twonky, which isn't working right now, and that it's not a full version of the software!

So I guess the Lacie Ethernet Disk mini is out.

What is a recommended NAS device that could meet my needs?

- Thanx in advance!

I have the lacie ethernet disk mini for streaming MP3 and pictures on my xbox 360. But you must update the firmware to version 1.1.1.

Hope this helps!

I'm very happy with my Lacie NAS!

I have the Lacie EDmini 500GB and the recent firmware upgrade helped me get video to stream to my Xbox 360. It seems that the video needs to be .wmv files which is a pain because I am an all mac household so my video is in h.264. I created a new folder in my media share and convert my most watched films to .wmv and will continue to convert as time allows. Not the greatest solution but it works for now.

I was happy to see that they did indeed update the Twonky software with the new firmware update.

OK OK!!! here it is... if you want to stream MP4 to ur Xbox 360 and also have the same file work on ur iPod, simple create the file as u normally do for ur iPod,,,after that open the file in QuickTime Pro, (must be pro and yah it costs 30 bux to upgrade)... once the file is open do a save as,,, this will convert the file to a .mov file...

THIS FILE WILL STREAM TO UR XBOX, via media server AND PLAY ON UR iPod....

Streaming MP4 h624 to Xbox 360

I found that I could just change the file extension of my H624 video's from .mp4 to .mov and that was enough to get the videos listed by the Lacie Twonky software and they stream fine to the 360. Please be aware that quicktime player will not be able to play them though with a .mov extension

I renamed my .mp4 files to .mov as suggested and it worked great.

Thanks!
