Is it possible to install Twonky manually?
Anyone with experiences here?
I have a brand new DS-209+. The speed is fantastic - but the onbord Audio-Streamer is not good enough. (Tree now: Genre ->Title - I Need: Genre->Artist->CD->Title)
Greetings from Germany... Andreas

Re: Twonky on Synology DS-209+
Hi Andreas,
In the next few days I'm planning to buy Synology DS209+. By this reason I asked TM support to help installing Twonkyserver on Syno. I have received the following answer:
Hi,
we are sorry, but we no longer support the NAS versions of the server that
need to be installed by the end-user.
Our media server is however available pre-installed on a growing number of NAS
devices.
Thanks

Anyway, may I ask you to share your experience with DS-209+ please? I am interested in Audio Station and/or Multimedia Station. It is possible to create custom node trees (for example Folder browsing for albums)? It is possible to play Flac files?
Thanks
Istvan
Re: Twonky on Synology DS-209+
Hi
Does this mean that I no longer can install twonky (even an older version) on my DS207+. from synology. I cannot find the installation files anywhere. (same version as the DS107+)
It is possible to download the old version (before 5) from somewhere. The links that are given in the forum does not work anymore.
Please advice.

I have a copy of Twonky for DS207. No idea if it will work pn 209+ ...
Twonkymedia no longer sell Twonky for NAS ... bummer! That means no new versiopns either ... I feel duped.
I can prolly send the install for 207 to you but I have no idea how you'd get a licensekey ... maybe anyone will do so purchase any one from them ... MAYBE ... don't know.
Runs like a charm on my 207 ...

The MultimediaStation is very bad for big music libraries.stef156 wrote: Anyway, may I ask you to share your experience with DS-209+ please? you can't edit trees of folder-browsing.
the tree now is e.g: music ->artist ->tracks (no album tree)
and this is very bad
i don't know something about flac-streaming abilities...
now i have a squeezebox duett and squeezecenter. there are a lot of great features of squeezecenter, but i wish custom trees at squeezecenter, too

I think you'll need the DS407 version for the DS409 (and for the DS207+). The original DS207 has a lower hardware spec than the later versions, and the DS407 binaries work well on most of the later models.RobRamsey wrote:I have a copy of Twonky for DS207. No idea if it will work pn 209+ ...

Twonky have had a change of heart and have published 4.4.11 on a new page for all the usual NAS units...
http://www.twonkyforum.com/unsupported/4.4.11/
A license bought for v5.n will activate v4.n installations according to the newly visible download page.
Please don't ask Twonky support staff about installer supprt for the NAS systems, or they may well remove the NAS versions permanently. If you have installer issues ask on this forum instead.
Hope this info' helps.

Unfortunately there are no either DS407 (?!) or DS409 (?!) binary versions at all. A new installer for Freescale MPC8543 (ppce500v2) would be nice for all DS209+ DS408 and DS508 owners!

Sorry, yes. I meant CS-407 not DS-407.stef156 wrote:spe wrote:I think you'll need the DS407 version for the DS409 (and for the DS207+). I haven't checked the chipsets in the 08/09 series, I had assumed it was a continuation of the chipsets in the earlier 07+ series and not a new CPU.

Just had another look at the CPU families...
The following models use the Marvell mv5281 ARM Processor:
DS107+ (64 or 128MB of RAM) DS207+ CS407 RS407
The following models use the PowerPC Freescale 8241 (PPC) CPU:
DS101g+ DS106 DS106j DS106e DS106x DS107 DS107e DS108j DS207 DS207(128) CS406 RS406 CS406 CS406e CS407e
The following models use the PowerPC Freescale 8543 (PPC) CPU:
DS209+ RS408 RS408-RP DS408 DS508
Retrieved from "http://www.synology.com/wiki/index.php/ ... _CPU_model"
So is it possible that the latest PPC units would execute binaries built for the earlier PPC units?
Has anyone tried loading a CS406 build onto a DS209+?
