iomega + twonky server 6.0.34

Hi all,

I´m having serious and a strange issue with some folders into a specific in my NAS, this issue is only when I try to navigate through folders from mi client, a Samsung TV.

My NAS is a 2TB iomega ix2-200 cloud ed. (version 3.2.3.15290) directly wired to TV (in different rooms), twonky server 6.0.34 version.

I have this infraestructure (there are different kind of video and audio formats):

/media/movies/old movies
/media/family videos/2001
/media/family videos/2002
/media/family videos/2003
/media/family videos/2004
/media/family videos/2005...and so on.
/media/series/serie1
/media/series/serie2
/media/series/serie3
/media/series/serie4... and so on.
/daughter/cartoons/cartoon1
/daughter/cartoons/cartoon2
/daughter/cartoons/cartoon3
/daughter/cartoons/cartoon4...and so on.

It is not very complex, just three folder levels...

The problem is that in windows I can navigate and view contents through all the folders, but not in TV, the only folder that I cannot navigate is Series, I have created the folder the same day as the other ones, this folder has exactly the same permissions than the other ones (anyone/full controll), my PC is running in a workgroup, not in a domain.

I can create folders and add/remove files at any infraestructure point through windows, but when I try to watch some series the TV browser only displays the first two folders.

I´ve tried these things:

unset security in my storage device- no sense.
Check windows permissions - no sense.
rebuild database at twonky server (a couple of times) - no sense.
re-scan storage contents (many, many times) - no sense.
restart twonky server (many, many times) - no sense.
create a new folder in widows an then move to my storage - no sense.
create a folder directly in the shared storage folder and copy and move the main video file - no sense.
unmap and remap shared folder(s) in windows a couple of times (today, yesterdey a couple of times) - no sense.

Thank you very much.

I will reply to myself.

The problem is TRANSCODING, I´ve found thtat I can create a file "ffmpeg-mkv-mpeg.desc " where I can specify transcoding options...I have to access via ssh and create that file with the next content:

For MKVs to transcode, you need to place a .desc file in twonkymedia's cgi-bin folder.
• Create the file /usr/local/twonkymedia/cgi-bin/ffmpeg-mkv-mpeg.desc
• Set the new file's permissions to 644.
• Inside the file, paste the following:
exec: ffmpeg -threads 2 -i $infile -vcodec mpeg2video -sameq -acodec copy -f vob -copyts -y $outfile
# capabilities
from=video/x-matroska
to=video/mpeg
synchronous
priority=idle
• On the transcoding page in the web interface, make sure mpeg2 is checked.
• Restart the media server or reboot the device: reboot

Well,

second reply to myself...

I´ve found how to...but I can´t, I access vía ssh but I have no permissions on directory where I must create the .desc file...

It is somekind related to FS permissions and mounting but I haven´t such experience & knowledge to do this, not a very experienced linux user...

If someone can help me it would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance.

Cheers.

Forget about doing video transcoding on a NAS. The cpu in most NAS devices is not up to the task.
