Preinstalled Twonky on NAS

Post by superfly » Wed Apr 18, 2007 8:33 pm

I am interested in getting the LaCie ethernet Big Disk. Does this come preinstalled with Twonkymedia like the ethernet disk mini? If so what version of twonky? Is it upgradeable? Does it mean I own a Twonky license and entitled to future upgrades (for how long?)

I dont know if it does or not to be honest. However, if it does it's probably set up in the same way as on the ethernet mini (which I have) and isnt great.

I'd recommend against lacie drives for twonky as you only get a limited installation on it. For upgrades, etc you have to wait for lacie to release their own as part of their firmware. You dont get your own license key.

For example, many lacie owners like myself are currently in a position where we can't play videos on our xbox 360's because only the latest twonky release works with the recent 360 update that went out. And lacie dont seem to be in any hurry to sort their software out.

Sorry, not the most positive reply!

Cheers
Nik
