Twonky on an HP MediaVault

Thanks to the FAQ I can get TwonkyMedia 4.4 to run on my HP MediaVault by executing it manually during a telnet session. It works great, except it will shut down once I close the telnet session (which defeats the purpose of running it on an NAS).
Following directions in that same FAQ I set up a start-up script to start twonky when the MediaVault starts up, but it doesn't work right...
If I view processes I see that it's running, but I can't access its configuration pages or see it from any other machine (including my PS3). If I try executing the start-up script myself, it still doesn't work.
When executing 'twonkymedia' directly, I see that in addition to the twonkymedia process, there are 8 instances of 'twonkymediaserver'. When starting using the start-up script I see 5 instances of 'twonkymediaserver'. Does this mean anything?
Can anyone recommend anything else to look for to understand what's wrong?
Thanks!
