Yeah I bought an Agestar ncb3ast NAS/Media Server to use with my Xbox 360 as well. (http://www.agestar.com/english/products/ccb3at.asp)

The TwonkyMedia Server shows up when I want to watch a video on the Select Source screen but whenever you try to select it as the source it tries to connect and then advises that the connection was lost.

I have written to Agestar to ask if Twonky is upgradable or configurable through a command line on their box - or if they'll be releasing any updates to try to address this issue but have received no reply.

Has anyone got access to this box or have any other suggestions (apart from checking the actual network connection which I know is good from testing other combinations of hardware)?

I thought I would update this with the best work around I've been able to come up with so far. It involves using a Windows PC with Media Player. By default Media Player won't allow you to share content on a NAS with the Xbox 360. You can get round this by doing the following...

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. In the registry tree (on the left), expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Microsoft, MediaPlayer, and Preferences.
3. Right-click HME, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type EnableRemoteContentSharing, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click EnableRemoteContentSharing, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data text box, type 1, and then click OK. If you later decide to disable remote content sharing, you can repeat this procedure and change the value to 0.

This isn't a perfect workaround as it means you have to have a PC powered up when you are watching movies but for occasional use it's workable. If anyone else has any better suggestions (e.g. if you know how to get access to upgrade Twonky or similar) then please post here. These drives are being sold on the hight street here in Australia at Jaycar as the XC4677 so it's not unreasonable to assume that someone out there has already come up with a solution.

apparently this thing is running version 3.1 and i would really love to upgrade it, agestar *through really bad english* denies that there box is loaded with this software and refuses to update it

anyone give a hint how to upgrade it to the latest legal version (if the agestar licence only goes up to v3)

It might be worth keeping an eye on this page http://tinyhack.com if Agestar are not being helpful. If it is possible to access Linux on the box then I guess it may be possible to pay for a new license for the later version of Twonky which supports the Xbox 360 and install it onto the box. It's not going to be as easy as Agestar just releasing (and if required charging) for an upgrade but it might be do-able. Has anyone else got any other suggestions/solutions?

at this stage i am questioning whether it is a legal version agestar put on this device as they deny it ever came with ANY UPNP MEDIA SERVER" at all. and the device formatted the drive into 3 partitions and took a amazing 40gb of space i can't even access

I went through the process at http://www.lliures.org/2008/05/02/ft3563-bt-hacking/ today and quickly got root access to the busybox linux os on this device via telnet. I found Twonky 3.1 installed in the /usr/sbin/media folder but despite my best efforts I couldn't get any of my feeble attempts at an upgrade to work. Unfortunately I don't know nearly enough about Linux to succeed and none of the NAS installations at http://www.twonkyvision.com/Download/Tw ... cians.html that I tried seemed to work on this box either.

It would've been so nice if under the Twonky GUI there was some option to autoupdate and infact when I got to http://<nas_ip>:9000 there is an option called "check for updates" under the network tab but it is already turned on and obviously doesn't make much difference (I guess it only checks for updates to 3.1 and not for full upgrades to later versions).

I'm not sure where to go from here. I could spend some more time trying to learn and tinker with linux, on the other hand I could save a lot of time and effort and go get another NAS.

I finally managed to hack this together and got Twonky 4.4.5 running! The solution I've got is cludgy but it works. I'll get my thoughts together on exactly what I just did and post the details here if anyone is interested. Initial thoughts are that it is good but it would be better if the Xbox 360 could play streamed Mpeg 4 files (all of my DivX files work well though so this is not a major issue). Also the video is played back in its native size when streaming where as when I was playing the same videos on the 360 from my USB drive I'm sure they were played back at full screen. I'll have a play to see if I can figure out if this is something I can change. I'm now watch some streamed videos! :)

I also have one of these drives,

I doubt jonbobby will be around since there is no activity from him for quite a while :(

I've also managed to get root access to the busybox of the agestar, by following the link jonbobby posted, however I have no idea how to update the twonkyvision software. Will I need a special build of it or can I just copy the files directly to the box? I guess there is a trial version to download, so I can confirm it works correcly?

Anyone else that has any knowledge on linux with suggestions?

I have telnet access, so I can copy files from /mnt/data directly to the busybox. I'll have a mess around but please post if anyone knows anything!

I've done it!!! Managed to update to 4.4.6

However there is a problem, the busybox is in RAM so when the NAS is powered off all the changes are lost, even access to telnet.

I'm really really unsure about making perminant changes due to potential bricking of the NAS unit.

But I will research a little more, now I've got an idea about it all.
